San Francisco 49ers vs. St. Louis Rams Preview

However, the Rams played well in the game against the 49ers, which ended in a rare tie, and they are coming off a win that snapped their 5-game winless streak. NFL lines has the 49ers at 7-point road favorites with a total of 40.

The 49ers have one of if not THE best defenses in the league, but the Rams racked up 458 yards in the earlier match up with them.

In their last games the Rams beat the Arizona Cardinals 31-17 and the 49ers beat the New Orleans Saints 31-21.

This season the 49ers are 7-4 ATS with an Over/Under record of 5-5-1 and the Rams are also 7-4 with an Over/Under record of 7-4.

The reason Kaepernick is the new starter is he has been playing great and in the win over the Saints he was 16 for 23 for 243 yards and had 2 TD. He is playing behind a great offensive line and he can also move the chains on the ground. He has 2 great targets in WR Michael Crabtree and TE Vernon Davis and the Rams’ pass D came up with 4 picks last week and ranks a decent 15th in the league.

Frank Gore rushed for 83 yards last week and caught a TD pass and he has really been a thorn in the side of the Rams in the last several meetings. The Rams and their 14th ranked rushing defense held the Cardinals to only 74 rushing yards, but Arizona has one of the weakest rushing offenses in the NFL.

A couple of the main reasons the Rams beat the Cardinals last week is that they forced 4 turnovers and they rushed for 174 yards with Steven Jackson rushing for 139 yards. However, in their game they face a 49ers’ run defense that ranks 4th in the league. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

The 49ers pass defense ranks 2nd in the league and they had 2 pick 6’s against the Saints. Sam Bradford had a decent game against the Cardinals and their solid pass defense and Danny Amendola is back, but is dealing with a heel injury and is questionable for this game. WR Chris Given had 115 receiving yards and 1 TD in the Arizona game, but the Rams are still thin at the WR position. The Rams’ offensive line must play well opening up holes for the rushing game and protecting Bradford, especially from LB Aldon Smith, who leads the NFL in sacks.

In some betting trends for this NFC West match up the 49ers are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 road games, 2-5-1 ATS in their last 8 road games vs. a team with a losing home record, and they have an Over record of 7-3 in their last 10 vs. a team with a losing record.

The Rams are 5-1 ATS vs. a team with a winning record, 5-1 ATS vs. a team with a winning record, and they have an Over record of 5-0 in their last 5 games.

Jason’s Pick: The 49ers are only 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games against the Rams, but that trend will not continue. It really does not matter who is under center for the 49ers, as their D will play well and they will win and cover.
