The Cincinnati Bengals, winners of three straight games will try to keep the roll going when they play their second disappointing California teams in a row, the San Diego Chargers after defeating the Oakland Raiders last week.
For the Chargers, they will be looking snap a three game slide and be hoping to erase the memory of perhaps one of the more stunning of 2012 – 4th and 29 will forever haunt this franchise!

The Bengals three game win streak has propelled them right into the AFC playoff hunt – balance on offense and stepped up defensive play have really helped this team gel in the middle of the season. Statistically, Cincinnati is middle of the pack but they seem to be improving each and every week.
The Bengals enter Sunday’s game with the league’s 12th ranked passing game the 14th ranked rushing attack and the 10th best scoring offense in the NFL. A.J. Green has anointed himself as one of the two or three best receivers in the Game and Andy Dalton has matured past his years.

Last week Dalton hit on 16 of 30 passes for 210 yards and three touchdowns while A.J. Green caught three passes for 111 yards – efficient and effective. Ben Jarvis Green Ellis ran for 129 yards on 19 carries and a touchdown. Cincinnati is clicking and is certainly a team that nobody wants to play at the moment.
Cincinnati’s defense has been coming on of late as well – perhaps they are the reason the Bengals have won three straight. Cincinnati allowed Oakland to gain just 218 yards of offense last week with 99 on the ground on 23 attempts from scrimmage. They are 8th against the pass and 17th against the run and will be formidable against San Diego.
The San Diego Chargers are finding new ways to lose! San Diego was in position to win last week`s game late holding on to a 3 point lead. At the two minute mark they allowed Baltimore to convert on 4th and 29 to put the team position to kick the game tying field goal and force the overtime period. On paper, the Chargers played pretty well but realistically the Chargers look like a team lost.
Offensively the Chargers gained 280 yards last week with 91 on the ground on 23 carries. Phillip Rivers hit on 23 of 26 passes for 228 yards and a touchdown, Ryan Mathews rushed for 72 yards on 19 carries and Danario Alexander caught five passes for 74 yards. The Chargers enter Sunday’s game with the 18th ranked passing game and the 25th ranked rushing attack – under 100 yards per game! This definitely is not the Chargers team we are used to seeing! Last week San Diego allowed the Ravens offense to amass 443 yards with 127 from their ground attack on 35 rushes – pretty typical for this team this season. The Chargers are 20th against the pass this season and a decent 5th against the run but they have been unable to put it all together when it really matters – 4th and 29?

Sunday’s contest is a battle of teams going in TOTALLY opposite directions. San Diego looks lost while the Bengals obviously have a cohesive goal. I don’t care that the Chargers are at home, I don’t care that they hung with Baltimore last week. San Diego just isn’t that great a team at the moment – Bengals roll and stretch the streak to four with ease!
