Oakland Raiders vs. Miami Dolphins NFL Week 2 Preview & Free Pick

NFL Handicapping – Raiders vs Dolphins Betting Spread / Matchup

Both teams in this AFC match up lost their season openers and while Oakland did not play that badly the same cannot be said for the Dolphins. Ryan Tannehill did not have a good debut throwing 3 INT and he had the lowest QB rating by a Miami QB since the 2007 season.

Oakland Raiders vs. Miami Dolphins Preview

The Raiders played well on offense, but they had defensive lapses and made way to many mistakes. NFL lines have the Raiders as 3-point road favorites with a total of 39.

Last week the Raiders lost to the San Diego Chargers 22-14 and the Dolphins lost to the Houston Texans 30-10.

In their opening games the Raiders failed to cover the spread with the total going Under and the Dolphins also failed to cover with the total going Under.

Carson Palmer had a good first game passing for nearly 300 yards with 1 TD and 0 INT and he spread the wealth with his passes. RB Darren McFadden did not have a great rushing game, but he caught 13 passes for 86 yards. The Miami gave up 254 passing yards and 83 rushing yards in the loss to Houston and they will have to defend the pass and run well in this game to pull off the home upset.

Tannehill struggled in his debt and it was not all his fault, as the Miami offensive line did not give him good protection and he was under pressure all game long. It does not help that the Dolphins do not have a good WR corps and even though that is the case their line has to protect their rookie QB and give him time in the pocket. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

Reggie Bush had a decent game against the Texans and their solid run defense picking up 69 yards on the ground averaging 4.9 yards per carry. He did not get a lot of carries since the Dolphins got down early and had to air it out to attempt a comeback.

The Raiders played decent pass defense against the Chargers, but they were stellar against the run holding the Chargers to only 32 rushing yards.

One of the main reasons the Raiders lost is that when they lost their long snapper they muffed 2 punt attempts and that killed them. That should not be the case this week since they signed another long snapper.

In some betting trends for this AFC match up the Raiders are 7-2 ATS in their last 9 road games, 1-4-1 ATS in their last 6 games, and they have an Over record of 6-2 in their last 8 games.

The Dolphins are 9-2 ATS in their last 11 games, 2-6 ATS vs. a team with a losing record, and they have an Under record of 5-1-1 in their last 7 home games.

Jason’s Pick: I don’t see Miami being able to stop the Raiders on offense and while Tannehill will have a better game Oakland will still win and cover the spread.
