All pessimism aside though this could be a great betting opportunity. When spreads are this small the winning team covers at a high rate, making this game one to definitely try and break down.

Cleveland

The Cleveland Browns have lost 5 in a row, and probably their spirit, heading into this one.

The last two weeks they have had the opportunity to beat playoff quality teams but couldn’t close the deal against either New England and Chicago, losing both late.

That takes a toll and I think we are going to see a flat performance this week, the first of two on the road to close the season.

Next week, at least they have division rival Pittsburgh but there is nothing to get up for this week against the Jets. Even from a development perspective there isn’t much to cling to as quarterback Jason Campbell, who has performed admirably, is likely not to be around next season.

After fighting hard the last couple of weeks I think Cleveland is going to crash violently this week. It might be even uglier than expected.

New York

New York has not been playing well lately either but if you couldn’t tell from the write up above I really like them this week – they are catching Cleveland at just the right time.

This team plays much better at home where they have already beaten teams including New Orleans and New England already this season.

They should take care of the Browns with relative ease but with a rookie at quarterback nothing is certain in the NFL. Geno Smith has not really progressed much this season having thrown interceptions in each of the last 5 games.

The Browns defense will force him to be at least serviceable and that is far from a guarantee.

The Jets own defense should be in a position to do the same to the Browns QB but the Jets will have to make sure that they don’t give too much room to WR Josh Gordon who has used some really big games to zoom to the top of the receiving yards leaderboard. He is big, fast and physical but Antonio Cromartie should be able to handle him.

That is the key matchup when Cleveland has the ball.

Spread Pick: New York -2.5
O/U Pick: Under
Score Prediction: New York 21 – Cleveland 13
