NFL WEEK 12 – GIANTS vs. BRONCOS

Where the Broncos went wrong this season is a serious topic of conversation in Colorado, even as the team uses its short week to get ready to play the equally dysfunctional Giants on Thanksgiving Day.

Denver started really taking on water in that loss to Washington, but does it really matter when things got sour? Of more concern is whether the 6-4 Broncos can man up enough to win four of the next six and make a run at a playoff spot.

It doesn’t look promising. Kyle Orton is hurting, but even healthy the league seems to have adjusted to his short passing game and inability to stretch the field. Knowshon Moreno is starting to see extra defenders in the block, and his fumble last week in that season-defining blowout loss to the Chargers at home resulted in a verbal spat with wideout Brandon Marshall.

Timing is everything, and if the Broncos had started the season with four straight losses and won six in a row the record would be the same but the perception and momentum would be different. Sports Betting at Sportsbook.com

But now rookie coach Josh McDaniels has to somehow suck it up and figure out a way to beat the Giants.

New York (6-4) was able to shake off its own four-game losing streak last weekend, beating Atlanta at home, but the Giants have issues of their own and the NY -7 line says volumes more about the Broncos’ problems than New York’s current status.

Something has happened to the Giants defense, and the problems run deeper than injuries in the secondary. New York has been getting waxed for more than a month, giving up an average of nearly 33 points a game over the last five. Philip Rivers and the Chargers carved up the Giants D in crunch time two weeks ago, and last week the Falcons went up and down the field in the fourth period, erasing a 14-point deficit and forcing overtime.

The Giants are still talking the talk. Brandon Jacobs is confident the team will right the ship and get into the playoffs, either as NFC East champ or wild card. And Eli Manning continues to insist that his right heel is fine after soreness in mid-season.

McDaniels and New York coach Tom Coughlin both know that the loser of this one is staring into the barrel of a pretty bleak December.
