Oakland Raiders vs. San Diego Chargers Preview

On the season the Raiders are 4-5 ATS and they have an O/U record of 5-4 and the Chargers are 5-4 ATS and they have an Under record of 4-5.

This season the Chargers are 3-1 at home and the Raiders are 0-4 on the road.

In their last games the Raiders lost to the Denver Broncos 41-17 and the Chargers lost to the Miami Dolphins 37-0.

The Chargers were rolling at 5-1, but they have lost 3 straight games and were embarrassed in their last game getting shut out. They have had a bye week to try to figure things out and they are fortunate to be at home facing the winless Oakland Raiders. However, earlier in the season in Oakland the Chargers only beat the Raiders by 3 points.

The Raiders are the only winless team in the NFL and they are 10-point betting underdogs facing the Chargers. Rookie QB Derek Carr has shown signs he can be a legit starter, but the rushing offense ranks dead last in the league and the defense has struggled.

The Chargers need to turn things around to make the playoffs, but their remaining schedule is killer. After the Raiders and then Rams they face the Ravens, Patriots, Broncos, 49ers, and Chiefs.

Carr has not passed for over 200 yards in either of his last 2 games where in each he has 2 TD and 2 INT. It does not help that he is playing behind a sketchy offensive line and a WR corps that is less than stellar. Still, the WR duo of James Jones and Andre Jones have at least 400 receiving yards and they have to play well facing a San Diego pass D that ranks 10th in the league.

The Raiders had a grand total of 30 rushing yards in the loss to the Broncos and Darren McFadden is just not the player he used to be. Still, he will face a SD run defense that gave up 132 rushing yards in the blowout loss to Miami and overall that unit ranks 17th in the league.

Phillip Rivers has the weapons in the WR corps and TE Antonio Games, but it would help if he could find them. In his last 3 games Rivers has more INT (6) than TD (5). At least he will be facing a Raiders’ secondary that gave up 5 passing TD’s last week to Peyton Manning and the Broncos. In the earlier win over the Raiders Rivers passed for over 310 yards.

With Ryan Mathews injury the Chargers have really not run the ball well all season and rank 30th in the league in rushing yards per game. However, the Raiders only rank 27th in run D, so the Bolts will test Oakland on the ground in this AFC West match up.
