Detroit Lions vs New England Patriots Preview

On the season the Lions are 5-5 ATS and they have an O/U record of 2-8 and the Patriots are 6-4 ATS and they have an O/U record of 8-2.

This season the Patriots are 5-0 at home and the Lions are 3-2 on the road.

In their last games the Patriots beat the Indianapolis Colts 42-20 and the Lions lost to the Arizona Cardinals 14-6.

While it is no surprise that the Patriots are still led by Tom Brady and the great passing attack they got a huge boost in their last game from their rushing offense. RB Marcus Gray set a franchise record with 4 rushing TD and he had 199 total yards on the ground.

The Lions had their 4-game win streak snapped in their last game where they did play good D, but only scored 6 points. Matthew Stafford has put up good numbers this season, but now Detroit is led by a defense that is #1 against the run and #5 against the pass.

The Patriots are riding a long winning streak at home and overall they have won 6 straight. They are a 7-point betting favorite in this game against the Lions, who could really use a win now that they are tied with the Packers atop the NFC North.

Stafford has Megatron and Golden Tate and in the loss to Arizona he found them to the tune of 100 combined yards. However, he only passed for 183 yards in the game, was sacked 4 times, and was picked off once. New England played solid pass D facing the top passing team in the NFL in the Colts in their last game and they rank 8th in the league in interceptions.

Stafford has not gotten much help from a rushing offense that ranks 2nd to last in the NFL. However, lead rusher Joique played well in the loss to the Cardinals and will face a decent run D of New England, which ranks 14th in the league.

Brady did not have a huge game facing the Colts and he did not have to with Gray racking up so many yards. He has 16 TD and 3 INT in his last 6 games, but all of the INT have come in the last 2.

The Lions did not have one sack last week and their 5th ranked pass D gave up over 300 yards to Cardinals’ backup QB Drew Stanton.

Gray came out of nowhere to have a HUGE game against Indy, but faces a very stiff test facing a Detroit run defense that is the top-ranked unit in the league and stuffed the run even in the loss to the Cardinals.
