Green Bay Packers vs. San Diego Chargers Week 9 Free Pick

Green Bay Packers vs San Diego Chargers

The Green Bay Packers have sliced through the competition this season.  Their last win against Minnesota was the closest any team has come (6 points) although that is a misleading statistic as the Vikings had to score 10 straight in the fourth quarter to close the gap.

Green Bay

They are the #1 scoring offense in the league and the only chink in the armour so to speak is a run game that averages just 100 yards per game.

Aaron Rodgers has been the best quarterback in the league this year, improving on his play from last year’s Super Bowl season.  He has so many weapons that it is hard to keep up with all and distributes the ball effectively.  San Diego has some players on defense (I think) but you need to force the Packers into making mistakes and that seems very unlikely.  Especially with an extra week to prepare.

How is this for a number?  Green bay has outscored opponents 57-3 after the bye week the last two seasons.  They have also dominated the Chargers winning 5 straight, 5-0 ATS, with the most recent game between the two back in 2007.  I thought this might be a letdown spot for Green Bay but they way they are chugging along and the way San Diego has struggled it looks more and more like a potential blowout.

San Diego

What is going on with San Diego?  They are making horrible plays at the worst possible moments which is surprising for a team with lots of veteran players.  [soliloquy id=”82219″]

They might be the most talented team in their division but after last week’s loss they are starting from scratch again with the Raiders, Chiefs and them, all tied at 4-3.

QB Phillip Rivers has been at the core of the Chargers disappointing season.  If the season were to end now he would have the lowest passer rating for his career and his 11 interceptions through seven games are only two less than he threw all of last season.  Not only is he getting picked but he seems to be having trouble managing the game as evidenced by his muff of a critical snap last week in the loss.

On top of that he is not getting much help form his defense.  They don’t give up a ton of yards but they seem unable to stiffen when things don’t go their way like turnovers.  They are also unable to force any big plays of their own averaging less than 2 sacks per game and only Eric Weddle’s 5 interceptions.

To have a chance against Green Bay they need to come up with some impact plays but that is easier said than done against Green Bay.

ATS Pick:  Green Bay
Over/Under Pick:  Over
Score Prediction:  Green Bay 35 – San Diego 28
