Green Bay

The Packers are feeling good about themselves as they are on a three game winning streak that started with their last game against Minnesota.  They have shown they can win with offense and defense, shutting out the Jets three weeks ago and scoring 45 against the Cowboys before their bye last week.  They need to keep rolling to keep up with the Bears who won on Thursday and can pretty much eliminate the Vikings at the same time.

In crushing the Cowboys Aaron Rodgers had his best game of the season.  His rating was 131.5 for the game due to his high completion percentage and 3 TDs with zero interceptions.  The running game was just effective enough and James Jones emerged with Donald Driver out with an injury. Driver is questionable this week so look for Jones to play well while the Vikings focus on Greg Jennings.

Lots of people are saying that this is the last time Aaron Rodgers will have to answer questions about Brett Favre.  You never know, but what you do know is that the Packers are starting to show why many thought this team was a Super Bowl contender.  Last year Minnesota won both of their meetings against the rival Packers but it looks like this year the shoe is going to be on the other foot.

Minnesota

Another week, another loss and another miserable performance by Brett Favre.  To quote Favre they are running out of time to get this thing turned around.  A loss this week will certify their season as being over as it would mean they would have to be perfect for the remainder.  Perfect and Favre have never gone together and this year mediocre and Favre haven’t either.  The NFL is brutal for the way a season can unravel in a hurry.

Last week’s loss to Chicago was a total team effort.  They got beat in every phase of the game with Favre’s three interceptions cementing their fate.  Especially frustrating for the Vikings is that they can’t score when they get in close.  They were 0-3 in the Red Zone and are missing a big receiver that can give them an advantage in one to one matchups.  Sidney Rice was that guy last year but he has yet to play this season.

Not to be overlooked when evaluating the Vikings is coaching or lack there of.  Childress is under intense pressure with all of this Favre stuff and my guess is he has lost the room.  This team is listing and there is nothing he has done that I can tell to right the ship.  Favre may drift off into the sunset with a bit of tarnish on his legacy but Childress will simply find himself on the unemployment line.  Maybe as early as Monday depending on how things go Sunday.

The Pick: Green Bay will win but the Vikings won’t quit against oldest rivals.  This one should be a fight.
