2013 Tennessee Titans Sportsbook Gambling Odds | Preview | Picks

Titans Schedule – NFL Football

Tennessee is a classic team that is not sure if they have a quarterback or not. The athletic Jake Locker has been outshined by other young signal callers and until they know whether he can be a legit pro or not it is going to be tough to know whether this current group can be a playoff contender.

There are wins to be taken on their schedule so they could show a little improvement in their record but I wouldn’t expect much.

Super Bowl Odds: +12500

Division Odds: +600

The Titans did not make a ton of changes coming into the this season. If Locker is more effective the team should follow and they probably have a better shot with backup Ryan Fitzpatrick than they did with Matt Hasselbeck stepping in.

Bringing in a guy like safety Bernard Pollard off a Super Bowl winning team is always a good idea but it hardly makes their defense elite. There is little to get excited about with these guys right now.

With every season it is looking like RB Chris Johnson’s 2000 yard season was a total fluke. He had back to back declining yardage seasons with a small spike last year. There doesn’t seem to be anything physically wrong with him but the numbers just aren’t there and there are too many games where he is a total non-factor.

For this team to achieve any level of significant success he needs to be a lot better. They did bring in Shonn Greene and Johnson didn’t like it, unfortunately I don’t think he is the kind of player to be motivated by competition.

As much as Johnson is needed to make this team competitive it won’t matter much if Jake Locker doesn’t improve. His inability to develop has stood in stark contrast to other young QBs, heck even Vikings QB Christian Ponder helped get his team into the playoffs last season, somehow. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

Locker is not blessed with great weapons and the switch at TE to Delanie Walker from the 49ers is probably just keeping things even over there rather than an upgrade. Tennessee needs to push their pass offense at least into the teens in the league to have a real chance this season.

Tennessee gave up more points than any other team in the league last year at just under 30 per game. Its no real surprise when you look at their personnel as nobody stands out on this squad. The addition of Pollard may give them some attitude in the secondary but there is a reason they drafted three defensive backs.

It would help just as much if the Titans could have brought in an elite pass rusher who might make their slightly better than average line better. Having that one elite player can make all the difference as offenses start to scheme around them. Tennessee definitely does not have that.

Overall Outlook: It is going to be another rough season for Tennessee. They have about as tough a start as you can get beginning with road games against Pittsburgh and Houston – both AFC contenders. In fact, I only see 2 of their 6 road games as winnable which puts an awful lot of pressure on their home tilts if they are going to do anything this season. Yes Indianapolis may slip a little this season but I don’t see the Titans overtaking them.

This team has the league’s worst defense and a not so great QB situation. Even if both improve it hardly makes them elite, merely respectable. Tennessee is going to be one of my fade teams for sure as the public will want to think they are better than they are
