NFL Free Pick: St. Louis vs. Tampa Bay Gambling Lines & Handicapping Preview

Week 2: Rams vs. Bucs Predictions

NFL Week 2 betting action sees the St. Louis Rams taking on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday September 14 at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa. Cappers Picks provides free NFL handicapping tips all season long.

Both of these team need a win this week, especially after losing at home as favourites to start the season. Tampa is the prohibitive favourite against a St. Louis team that is looking more and more lost every day.

St. Louis

The Rams were ugly in a 34-6 loss to Minnesota last week. They came into the season with a highly thought of defense that was hoped to make up for the loss of QB Sam Bradford but it was far from dominating in the opener.

To make matters worse they lost DE Chris Long one of their bookend pass rushers for the next 8-10 weeks due to an ankle injury that requires surgery.

This team is pretty low right now and they will be hitting the road on Sunday.

The Rams are going to struggle on offense this season.

I was never a believer in Sam Bradford but with him out it is going to be an every week battle to put up enough points to win.

Shaun Hill is one of the more experienced backups around but he left the opener leaving the Rams to turn to Austin Davis – it was his first taste of NFL action and thankfully he wasn’t terrible.

Still I am not expecting much from this team offensively this season which will make them tough to back in their inevitable underdog roles.

Tampa Bay

Tampa lost their opener but their prospects are a lot better than St. Louis at the moment. Sure they squandered an opportunity against a Cam Newton-less Carolina team but generally there is optimism in T-Bay – though that feeling will change in a hurry if they do not get this one.

Last week they were very sloppy but you can bet that Lovie Smith is not going to let them keep putting the ball on the ground.

He will tighten them things up for them going forward.

Josh McCown is finally getting his chance to be the guy and he didn’t get off to a good start last week. He was off target all day and the Bucs had only one pass play over 20 yards the whole game. Most importantly they need to get some sort of running game going.

I am chalking up last week’s struggles to the fact that it was the first game of the year and Carolina is a good defensive team.

They should be much better this week.
