49ers vs Saints Pick

NFL Week 9 Betting action sees the San Francisco 49ers taking on the New Orleans Saints on Sunday November 9th at the Mercedes Benz Superdome. Cappers Picks provides free NFL handicapping tips all season long.

It’s been a strange year thus far for the Niners.

Date/Time: Sunday, Nov. 9 2014, 1 pm EST
Venue: Mercedes Benz Superdome, New Orleans LA
Broadcast: FOX
San Francisco +6, New Orleans -6
Over/Under: 49

They’ve been streaky, but undeniably mediocre so far; a 4-4 record is a clear disappointment for a club that was viewed as the best team in the NFC not named the Seahawks.

Meanwhile, the Saints look like they’re just finding their form, and this Sunday is also a cherished home contest.

San Francisco’s run game has looked unimpressive. The tried, trusty and true RB Frank Gore may finally be showing his age and extensive NFL mileage (all of which happened after two devastating college knee injuries).

Also, the 49ers have been playing with a short deck on defense all season long. Linebackers NaVorro Bowman and Patrick Willis – linchpins of the “D” – have been out, and pass rusher Aldon Smith has been suspended.

Sometimes QB Colin Kaepernick looks great, and other times he looks like he should get benched – that must worry those in the Bay Area who aren’t Oakland fans.

In the meantime, the Saints have gotten their act together in a big way.

Quarterback Drew Brees is doing, well, Drew Brees things. The deep RB corps has been depleted with ailments to Pierre Thomas and Khiry Robinson, but Mark Ingram has really emerged as a feature back.

Uber-athletic TE Jimmy Graham has come back from injury and he looks like his old self. All these elements translate into a Saints team that can once again challenge in the NFC – especially in their garbage division (the NFC South).

The story with New Orleans is that its always a dicey pick on the road, but the Saints excel in that home dome. Brees should uncork his usual aerial antics to Graham, Ingram, Marques Colston, WR Kenny Stills and the rest of the gang.

The thing with San Francisco is, they still have that elite team pedigree. The 49ers have contended in a strong NFC year after year, and only a fool would sleep on them in 2014. Yet, something doesn’t look quite right this time around.

San Fran is coming off two bad losses (a shellacking by Denver and a humbling fall to St. Louis) and the schedule doesn’t get any kinder, with Seattle looming twice in the near future.

The Niners can pitch a great performance at any given time, but if Jim Harbaugh’s men don’t get things straightened out quickly, this 2014 campaign could go sideways for a team that many predicted could be in the Super Bowl.
