Week 16: New England vs New York Expert Preview

Two AFC East teams and long time rivals will square off on Sunday when the New England Patriots (11-3) take on the New York Jets (3-11). Cappers Picks will provide free NFL picks all season.

New England looks to keep rolling and maintain their grip on the number one seed in the AFC while the Jets are just trying to get out of this disastrous season as quickly as possible.

Patriots

It’s been another pretty typical season from the New England Patriots after what as a somewhat atypical start. The Pats started the season 1-2 and were embarrassed on Monday Night Football by the Kansas City Chiefs in that stretch.

Since that time the Pats are 10-1 and are arguably the team to beat in the entire NFL.

Quarterback Tom Brady has been his usual brilliant self, commanding an offense that doesn’t feature a whole wealth of weapons outside of tight end Rob Gronkowski. Brady has racked up nearly 3,900 passing yards and 32 touchdowns to just eight interceptions.

The Pats locked up the AFC East last week in a demolition of the Miami Dolphins, but are still in a dog fight for the one seed and will likely need to win their final two games in order to do so.

Jets

The end of this season can’t come fast enough for the Jets who have been a train wreck for much of the 2014 campaign. Rex Ryan is likely coaching his final two games as the head coach of the Jets and he has just looked over matched and clueless most of the season.

The defensive minded Ryan has failed to put an offense on the field that can do much outside of running the ball and the Jets are 29th in the NFL in points per game and 25th in total yards per game.

That being said, Rex Ryan loves these games and this is likely his Super Bowl as it will probably be his last game coaching against Bill Belichick as the coach of the Jets.

New York always plays the Pats tough and I don’t expect any different in the Jets’ final home game of the season.

Week 16 Patriots vs. Jets 4* Free Pick

The Pats should in all reality win this one, but that 10.5 point spread is just an eye sore for me right now.

The Jets went into Foxborough earlier this season and played New England to a very close 27-25 loss and I expect them to hang in there this week as they have nothing to lose and a chance to play spoiler to the Pats’ hopes for the one seed.

Take the Jets.
