Pittsburgh controls their own destiny – wins in their last two games will give them the AFC North crown while the Chiefs will need a little help along the way. So who wins this uber-important clash of the playoff hopefuls? Let’s break it down.

Chiefs

The Kansas City Chiefs got the much needed 31-13 win against Oakland last week to snap a losing streak that threatened to remove them from the playoff picture altogether. KC’s passing game has suddenly come alive, the running game continues to be one of the better ones in the NFL and the defense continues to do its part as well.

Speaking of the passing game – Alex Smith has caught fire – he has gone over the 290 yard passing mark in consecutive weeks after eclipsing the 250 yard mark just one time prior to Week 14, Rookie Albert Wilson caught a 48 yards TD against Oakland and Knile Davis score on a 70- yard catch and run play in the win.

Big passing plays that had been sadly lacking in Kansas City’s game are starting to surface as the season draws to a close. Dwayne Bowe is playing better and tight end Travis Kelce continues to be an effective weapon for the Chiefs.

That said the Chiefs success will once again be predicated on a running game that will feature a banged up Jamaal Charles who was being evaluated for a concussion and Knile Davis who has looked terrific at times this year. The Steelers have been susceptible against both the run and the pass this year – KC has a chance to do some damage Sunday.

It will be up to the Chiefs good defense to slow a scorching Pittsburgh offense. Ben Roethlisberger and Antonio Brown have been one of the most reliable QB/WR combos in the game and Le’Veon Bell has established himself as an elite running back this year. Kansas City’s defensive weakness is against the run – not a good sign with Bell on the horizon.

Steelers

To beat the Pittsburgh Steelers, teams are going to have to score a ton of points – no offense in the NFL is quite as balances and as hot as Big Ben and company right now. The Steelers are averaging 35.5 points per game at home and the team is equally dangerous in the running and passing game.

Ben Roethlisberger has thrown for over 350 yards three straight weeks heading into Sunday’s clash. Although the Chiefs own the league’s second best pass defense, the Steelers are making everyone look bad right now. Antonio Brown, Marcus Wheaton and even Heath Miller are making teams look silly. Le’Veon Bell has done whatever he has wanted to do in the running and passing game as well.

We know that the Steelers will score points. The difference between winning and losing may be their defense on Sunday. The Steelers rank in the bottom third in the NFL in pass defense – teams have been shredding them with big plays of late.

Simply put if you can throw the ball, you will have success against this defense. The good thing for Pittsburgh is that the Chiefs aren’t exactly explosive and they don’t exactly own a dominant wide receiver.

NFL Week 16 Betting Trends

• KC are 7-2 ATS in their last 9 vs. AFC.
• Over is 5-2-1 in KC last 8 games in December.
• Under is 7-3 in KC last 10 games overall.
• Over is 6-2 in PIT last 8 games overall.

NFL Week 16 Betting Prediction

The Steelers have been on fire offensively while the Chiefs have continued to be average on the offensive side of the ball. At home they have been especially impressive.

Pittsburgh Steelers -3

Look for Pittsburgh to continue their scoring ways, for Le’Veon Bell to have a game and for the Steelers to easily outscore their visitors in this one. The Steelers offense won’t be denied!
