Philadelphia vs New York Pick

NFL Week 17 betting action sees the Philadelphia Eagles taking on the New York Giants on Sunday December 28th at MetLife Stadium. Cappers Picks provides free NFL handicapping tips all season long.

Other than smaller, mini-narratives, interesting for the casual football fan (more on that later) this is a meaningless Week 17 NFC East match-up, thanks to Philly’s collapse over the last three weeks.

Both teams would get the small consolation of knocking off a divisional rival, but that has to be cold comfort – especially for the Eagles.

Philadelphia controlled its own destiny a few weeks ago, when its record sat at 9-3. Since that, the Eagles have dropped three straight to Seattle and division rivals Dallas and Washington.

Whatever shine was attached to QB Mark Sanchez with his initial strong performance filling in for injured starter Nick Foles, the losing streak has long rubbed off. Perhaps the Real Mark Sanchez simply reared his ugly head.

At 6-9, the New York (football) Giants don’t have much to play for either, but they could take solace in adding to the misery of their hated neighbor, just 90 miles down the freeway.

One amazing development for the G-Men – both for their fans and football fans everywhere – is the coronation of WR Odell Beckham. Recently, the rookie from LSU has been the best wideout in the league not named Dez Bryant or Jordy Nelson.

Everyone remembers Beckham’s ridiculous one-handed circus catch a few weeks ago, but he’s been so much more than that. Beckham has 31 receptions for 421 yards and six TDs in the last three weeks. He’s a stud, both in fantasy leagues and for Giants’ brass.

On the season, Beckham has 79 receptions for 1,120 yards and 11 TDs – unreal numbers for any WR, much less a rookie.

Conversely, Philly’s fast-paced attack has always been able to score points, but its defense has failed it amidst this streak of futility. The Eagles especially need help in the defensive secondary; opponents’ pass attacks have been lighting up Chip Kelly’s crew.

Beckham could have another big day at home against Philly’s sub-par secondary.

New York is riding a three-game win streak after dropping a pathetic seven consecutive games earlier on. Wisdom suggests that the Giants should be motivated at home to finish the season on a good note.

Philadelphia should be brow-beaten, given the recent developments.

To be fair, Kelly is a great coach. It wouldn’t surprise me to see the Eagles come out with a strong effort. Not to mention, they have LeSean “Shady” McCoy and the versatile vet Darren Sproles toting the rock.

Still, when you look at the vibes of these two teams, it’s hard not to like New York in the Meadowlands in the final game of the 2014 regular season.
