Buffalo

The Bills season heavily relies on the play of quarterback E.J. Manuel, who despite having an NFL year under his belt, is yet to show on the field as good as he pencils out on paper.

He will have a few good receivers at his disposal, including rookie Sammy Watkins and Marquise Good-win, who very well could be the fastest player in the NFL. Also, you can’t leave out Robert Woods who appears to be a star in the making.

But until Buffalo’s rookies pan out, in the meantime it will lean on its backfield which consists of a trio of potent running backs in C.J. Spiller, Fred Jackson and Bryce Brown.

Defensively, the Bills are solid, with Marcell Dareus anchoring a capable defensive line, along with ends Jerry Hughes and Mario Williams, who should be able to put the heat on even the best quarterbacks in the NFL.

The secondary is able, and should have a busy afternoon in Chicago.

Chicago

The Bears are hungry after missing the postseason last year, falling short in their final game against the Green Bay Packers.

Chicago will hope that quarterback QB Jay Cutler, who missed a good portion of last season due to injury, will remain healthy enough for it have any chance of winning games and getting back into the playoffs in 2014.

He will have one of the best receiver tandems in football at his disposal with Brandon Marshall and Alshon Jeffrey.

If Cutler is not able to get back to full strength, the Bears will lean on running back Mat Forte to shoulder the offensive load. Forte is one of the better backs in the NFL both carrying the football and catching it.

On the defensive side of the ball, the Bears looked soft in the preseason without Julius Peppers.

But Jared Allen, Lance Briggs and Charles Tillman should be able to help maintain a formidable defensive unit.

Week 1 NFL Football Spread Prediction

Buffalo is 2-8 against the spread in their last 10 road games, while Chicago is 1-8-1 against the spread in their last 10 home games. Not a lot to rely on here.

So, my pick is based on one simple factor – the Bills secondary against Cutler, Marshall and Jeffrey.

4* Play – Score: Bears 28, Bill 17
