Free Pick: Bears vs. Panthers Gambling Lines & Handicapping Preview

Week 5: Chicago vs Carolina Predictions

NFL Week 5 betting action sees the Chicago Bears taking on the Carolina Panthers on Sunday October 5 at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina. Cappers Picks provides free NFL handicapping tips all season long.

Both of these teams need a rebound this week but only one can get it. The smart bet seems the home team but I am not sure.

Chicago

Chicago has some weird splits this season with a 2-0 record on the road and an 0-2 record at home. Similarly, at time they look like a legit contender and other not. They are suffering from some serious injuries in their secondary but if they are on their game their passing offense can torch any of their opponents.

You just never know what you are going to get with Chicago right now. They are among the hardest teams in the league to read.

Through 4 games QB Jay Cutler has yet to get the production out of his receivers we expect. Right now TE Martellus Bennett is leading the team in receiving and Brandon Marshall is averaging less than 10 yards per catch. His 5 TDs are nice for fantasy owners but at this pace he won’t even reach 60 catches – a figure he has topped every season but his first in Denver. They have to get him more involved.

Carolina

There is no way to get around it, the Panthers got whacked last week against Baltimore and most of us saw it coming a mile away.

This is a team that has not been able to establish the offensive and defensive identities it had a year ago and without those platforms they are grasping. Lucky for them they are in a division that has been terrible this season so a win would put them over .500 and in first place.

Through a quarter of the season we have yet to see any of that patented Cam Newton magic. He has missed one of the game they actually won and in the others he has kind of been a non-factor. Don’t get me wrong the numbers look pretty good but where are the dynamic plays that only he can make. The Panthers may want to protect him but they are not special with him playing it safe.
