NFL Football Picks: Handicapping Angles – Week 17 Free Parlay

NFL Week 17 Free NFL Parlay Picks

Just like some NFL teams that appear to be hitting their stride at the right time of the year, I am heading into the final week of the regular season with a pocket full of cash after going with both Pittsburgh and Green Bay in last week’s NFL two-team parlay play.

I have already dug deep into a pair of huge showdowns in Week 17’s season finales to come up with another two-team NFL parlay play that you can take to the bank based on betting odds by 5Dimes.

Carolina Panthers vs. Atlanta Falcons

Pointspread: Atlanta -3.5
Total Line: 47
Matchup | Preview

The Carolina Panthers have doubled their straight-up win total over the past three weeks and, at 6-8-1 on the year, that has been good enough to force a one-game winner take all battle this Sunday for the NFC South Division title.

One of the biggest factors weighing against the Panthers along with the fact that they are not really that great of a team, is the simple fact that no team in this division since NFL realignment in 2002 has won this title in consecutive seasons.

The Panthers needed 12 wins last season to capture the crown against the Saints.

Standing in the Panthers’ way of making history is the Atlanta Falcons at 6-9. Both of these teams are 7-8 against the spread this season and the Falcons are just 2-4 ATS in six previous games as favorites.

This game is not about which team wants it more, it is about which team can avoid stepping on its own toes to avoid the loss. While the Panthers have been dreadful on offense whether or not Can Newton is under center, the Falcons have the worst-ranked defense in the league against the pass and in total yards allowed.

Since somebody has to win (we hope) I would go with Atlanta at home, but I love Carolina and the extra half point on the current 3.5-point spread to cover in a game decided by a field goal.

Detroit Lions vs. Green Bay Packers

Pointspread: Green Bay -9
Total Line: 47.5
Matchup | Preview

The Lions kind of snuck up on everyone including the Packers in their run to an 11-4 SU record heading into this game.

They have been able to beat-up on the rest of the division as well as Tampa Bay the past four weeks to keep this race as tight as it can be coming down the stretch.

Detroit also won the first meeting this season back in Week 3 in a 19-7 victory as a one-point home favorite. The main thing that gives the Lions a legitimate shot in this game is a shutdown defense that is ranked second in the league in yards allowed (295.9) and points allowed (16.8).

If you would go back three weeks in time, it would be hard to see this spread coming in lower than 11 or 12 points.

There have been some chinks in the armor in Green Bay’s 21-13 loss to Buffalo as 4.5-point road favorites as well as in this past Sunday’s lackluster 20-3 grinder against Tampa Bay as a heavy 11-point favorite on the road.

[dfads params=’groups=63752&limit=1&return_javascript=0′]

I do not see Aaron Rodgers and Co. losing this game SU or even ATS, but I do see the Lions’ defense making it tough to score. This adds up to a play on the UNDER 47.5 to round-out the back end of this week’s NFL two team play.
