AdvoCare V100 Texas Bowl: Razorbacks vs Longhorns Predictions

College football betting action sees the Arkansas Razorbacks taking on the Texas Longhorns on Monday December 29 at NRH Stadium in Houston, Texas for the AdvoCare V100 Texas Bowl. Cappers Picks provides free NCAAF handicapping tips all season long.

Two proud programs are looking to end their seasons on a high note. The Longhorns probably need this one more than their old SWC rivals.

Arkansas

The record may only say 6-6 but if you look at the games you will see some serious progress for Arkansas this season.

I am pretty sure that all of their losses were to teams that were ranked at the time and they finally broke through with some conference wins this season, including shutouts of Ole Miss and LSU.

Playing in the SEC West it is going to be very hard to climb to the top of the mountain but there is no reason they cannot be a more regular factor under coach Bret Bielema.

Bielema had another two-headed monster at running back this season.

Both Alex Collings and Jonathan Williams had over 1000 yards and double digit TDs this season.

Unlike some other duo they have comparable skill sets which I think makes it harder for the defense to know what is coming.

The defense was 16th in points allowed meaning that the thing that is probably missing is more reliable play at quarterback from Brandon Allen.

Texas

I think it safe to say that the Charlie Strong era did not get off to the kind of start Longhorns hopes would have hoped.

The defense was respectable but this program is still struggling to do anything with consistency on offense – they are a shocking 105th in points.

Everyone claims that it isn’t talent but after so many lean seasons lined up you have to wonder. You certainly cannot pin this year’s struggles solely on Strong but whatever schematic changes he brought have not borne fruit…yet.

It is hard to get all that talent going in the right direction without a quality quarterback.

Tyrone Swoopes looks the part physically but he is not overly accurate or mobile.

He is just a sophomore so there is room to grow but you kind of have to think that the Longhorns could be one very good quarterback away from being able to compete with the big boys in the B12.

I am not expecting that he is going to outperform in the bowl which will make it hard for Texas.

NCAAF Handicapping Trends:

  • Razorbacks are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 vs. Big 12.
  • Razorbacks are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 non-conference games.
  • Over is 5-0 in Razorbacks last 5 non-conference games.
  • Under is 5-0 in Longhorns last 5 games following a double-digit loss at home.
  • Longhorns are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 games after scoring less than 20 points in their previous game.
  • Over is 4-0 in Longhorns last 4 vs. SEC.

4* NCAAF Prediction: Arkansas -6.5

I suppose it is possible Strong has some motivational ploy up his sleeve but if so why hasn’t it worked so far.

NCAAF Score prediction: Arkansas 31 – Texas 17

Look for Arkansas to run through the Longhorns. That is tough to take after the layoff.
