Chicago Bears vs. Tennessee Titans NFL Week 9 Preview & Free Pick

NFL Handicapping – Bears vs Titans Betting Spread / Matchup

Nobody is really talking about the Bears (6-1) as being legit Super Bowl contenders, but their defense has been solid and they have won 5 straight. The Titans (3-5) are coming off a tough loss and if they lose this game they may be out of the playoff picture already.

Chicago Bears vs. Tennessee Titans Preview

One of the main reasons the Titans are losing is that their defense does not rank in the top 27 in the league against the pass or the run. NFL lines have the Bears as 3.5-point home favorites with a total of 43.5.

In their last games the Bears beat the Carolina Panthers 23-22 while the Titans lost to the Indianapolis Colts 19-13 in OT.

This season the Bears are 4-3 ATS and they have an Over/Under record of 4-3 and the Titans are 3-5 ATS and they have an Over/Under record of 5-3.

Jay Cutler leads the Bears and their 30th ranked passing offense and he only has 1 legit WR in Brandon Marshall, as Marshall has 675 receiving yards and the next leading WR only has 184. Cutler has struggled in the first 3 quarters of games, but his 4th quarter QB rating is the best in the NFL. Last week the Titans allowed Andrew Luck to pass for nearly 300 yards.

Cutler has been sacked 25 times this season, but luckily for him the Tennessee pass rush only ranks 28th in the league with 11 sacks. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

Bears’ offensive coordinator Mike Tice recently stated that Matt Forte will be more involved in the offense he has been playing well and has averaged over 4 yards per carry in his last 5 games. The Tennessee run defense has been torched this season and they gave up 171 rushing yards to a Colts’ team that has struggled to run the ball this season.

Matt Hasselbeck has been playing well under center since taking over for an injured Jake Locker and he has a decent WR corps and will be facing a Bears’ pass defense that ranks 19th in the league.

The key for the Bears D will be containing Tennessee RB Chris Johnson, who has rushed for 385 yards and 2 TD in his last 3 games. The Bears’ run defense ranks 9th in the league, but they gave up 119 rushing yards in the win over the Panthers last week.

In some betting trends for this non-conference match up the Bears are e 2-5 ATS vs. a team with a losing record and they have an Over record of 8-2 in their last 10 games following a S.U. win.

The Titans are 3-8-1 ATS in their last 12 games overall, 0-4-1 ATS vs. a team with a winning record, and they have an Under record of 6-2-1 in their last 9 home games.

Jason’s Pick: Even with the struggling Bears’ offense I am going with them on the road since the Titans are just not a good team and their D has been terrible. Take Chicago to win this road games and cover the spread.
