2014 Tennessee Titans Schedule | Season Handicapping Picks

NFL Football Titans Analysis

Next up, we have the Tennessee Titans. One of my favorite tools in preparing for the upcoming NFL season and enhancing your NFL wagering knowledge is to look ahead at each team’s schedule and evaluate the games they will play.

Titans Odds [dfads params=’groups=63740&limit=1&return_javascript=0′]
Odds to win the 2015 Super Bowl XLIX: 90/1
Odds to win the 2015 AFC Conference: 35/1
Season Win Total: 8 wins

Sun, Sept. 7 @ Kansas City

2014 is truly a make-or-break year for Tennessee starting QB Jake Locker. His success is contingent on him not breaking anything on his body; injuries have hindered his development to this point. It all starts in Week 1 with a tricky road game at Arrowhead Stadium.

Sun, Sept. 14 DALLAS

Getting the Cowboys at home is nice; the Titans’ head-hunting safeties (Bernard Pollard, Michael Griffin) could make life miserable for Dallas’s pass-catching trio of WRs Dez Bryant, Terrance Williams and TE Jason Witten. Tennessee’s safety duo are a large reason why it ranks in the upper-half of the league in pass defense.

Sun, Sept. 21 @ Cincinnati

The Bengals have lots of tantalizing individual elements to their franchise, but for some reason they just don’t seem like one of the NFL’s more intimidating teams week to week. Maybe some of that has to do with QB Andy Dalton’s inconsistency.

Sun, Sept. 28 @ Indianapolis

One of the rare weeks the Titans don’t want to hear “Good Luck.”

Sun, Oct. 5 CLEVELAND

Browns WR Josh Gordon goofed up big time when he got busted – again – for violating the league’s substance-abuse policy. The Browns have a lot of pieces coming together and they had a great draft, but Gordon’s suspension definitely suppressed some of the optimism on the shores of Lake Erie.

Sun, Oct. 12 JACKSONVILLE

Cleveland’s Gordon suspended for substance-abuse problems; Jacksonville WR Justin Blackmon suspended for the very same thing. You think the league might be suffering from an image crisis?

Sun, Oct. 19 @ Washington

Tennessee’s four starting LBs in its base package (Derrick Morgan, Zach Brown, Shaun Phillips and newcomer Wesley Woodyard) will have to be at their freelancing best to contain athletic and egotistical DC pivot Robert Griffin III.

Sun, Oct. 26 HOUSTON

The Titans drafted Washington Huskies RB Bishop Sankey to compensate for the departure of speedy Chris Johnson; he’ll have to live up to the billing for the Titans to (a) have a worthy foil for power back Shonn Greene; and (b) have a rushing offense that remains in the top half of the NFL.

WEEK 9 BYE

Sun, Nov. 9 @ Baltimore

Unless Baltimore RB Ray Rice has a bounce-back year in 2014, the Titans defense should handle the home team’s attack pretty easily.

Mon, Nov. 17 PITTSBURGH

With the first-round draft choice of Michigan OT Taylor Lewan and Michael Roos, Andy Levitre and Chance Warmack already in the starting mix on the offensive line, the Titans should be able to bring a Steelers-esque power running game to the Steelers on Monday Night Football.

Sun, Nov. 23 @ Philadelphia

This is QB Nick Foles’s team now, and he’s established this much quicker than Locker has done so for the Titans. That must worry Tennessee fans somewhat.

Sun, Nov. 30 @ Houston

That the Titans have a strong O-line is no secret, but they’ll have to be firing on all cylinders with Texans DEs J.J. Watt and Jadeveon Clowney to deal with. I wouldn’t wish that on my worst enemy.

Sun, Dec. 7 NEW YORK GIANTS

December kicks off for the Titans with back-to-back home games against the New York teams. Both teams from the Big Apple are in a state of flux, which is good news for the Nashville gang.

Sun, Dec. 14 NEW YORK JETS

The Jets are really good at running the ball (6th in the NFL last year) and stopping the run (3rd). It’s just there are two problems with that: Firstly, it’s no longer 2002 – the NFL is a passing league. Second, they are really awful at all other aspects of football.

Thurs, Dec. 18 @ Jacksonville

A road game on short rest is always tricky, but the combination of this not being a cold-weather game and the Jaguars being pretty tame is a stroke of luck for the Titans.

Sun, Dec. 28 INDIANAPOLIS

The Titans have ten days to prepare for the final home game of the 2014 season against their bitter divisional rival Colts. It wasn’t a fun match-up with Peyton Manning under center for Indy and it isn’t a fun match-up with Andrew Luck spinning video game numbers, either.
