2014 Indianapolis Colts Schedule | Season Handicapping Picks

NFL Football Colts Analysis

One of my favorite tools in preparing for the 2014 NFL season and to enhance your NFL wagering knowledge is to look ahead at each team’s regular-season schedule and evaluate the games they will play. Behold, the Indianapolis Colts.

Colts Odds [dfads params=’groups=63740&limit=1&return_javascript=0′]
Odds to win the 2015 Super Bowl XLIX: 25/1
Odds to win the 2015 AFC Conference: 14/1
Season Win Total: 11 wins

Sun, Sept. 7 @ Denver

The Colts face a grave test in the first week of the season, in a match-up that the football narrative-weavers will love: former Mr. Colt (franchise legend Peyton Manning) vs. current Mr. Colt Andrew Luck. Should be a can’t-miss game at Mile High.

Mon, Sept. 15 PHILADELPHIA

Indy’s undersized defense will likely be well-equipped to deal with Philly’s brisk offense. The Eagles like to push the pace under head coach Chip Kelly and Colts DBs better expect to cover anybody and everybody – especially with the Eagles able to operate indoors.

Sun, Sept. 21 @ Jacksonville

The legal and drug trouble with star WR Justin Blackmon takes some sting out of the Jags’s attack, but still keep an eye on second-year Ace Sanders, who could be poised to take another step forward in ’14.

Sun, Sept. 28 TENNESSEE

If Colts RB Trent Richardson is going to show he is actually a viable option for an NFL team, a big game versus the 20th-ranked rush defense in the league might be a nice logical first step.

Sun, Oct. 5 BALTIMORE

Last year, the Ravens regressed after their Super Bowl-winning 2012 efforts, but Joe Flacco and Co. are still an AFC North club that you don’t want to get caught napping with.

Thurs, Oct. 9 @ Houston

The Texans are a hot mess after the Matt Schaub disaster last season, but a defensive line tandem of J.J. Watt and Jadeveon Clowney should spell “nightmare” for Indianapolis offensive linemen. Those two must get to the QB and disrupt a lot if they are to make the entire defense better.

Sun, Oct. 19 CINCINNATI

Andy Dalton keeping his mouth shut and humbly churning out 400 passing yards and 3-4 TDs in a blowout victory is one thing; Dalton preaching that he “deserves to be paid like the face of the franchise” is quite another. I would throw a couple of TDs with wideout A.J. Green at my disposal.

Sun, Oct. 26 @ Pittsburgh

The perennially strong Steelers may be guilty of not surrounding QB Ben Roethlisberger with enough targets, but going to Heinz Field and returning home with a win is always a tricky proposition.

Mon, Nov. 3 @ New York Giants

For many years, this Monday night tilt was a battle of brothers. These days, the Colts’ aspirations are tied up in Luck (how can you not love that pun?) and younger Manning Bro Eli is perhaps struggling to keep his starting job in the Big Apple.

Week 10 BYE

Sun, Nov. 16 NEW ENGLAND

The shine has worn off pretty-boy Patriots pivot Tom Brady recently, but the Pats still possess an uncanny ability to plug-in and play obscure, overlooked players. That damn Belichick!

Sun, Nov. 23 JACKSONVILLE

Heading into the home stretch of the season, this is the type of home game the Colts have to have if they intend on claiming the AFC South division. There’s no good reason why they shouldn’t.

Sun, Nov. 30 WASHINGTON

Indy’s third consecutive home game in November comes against a team with a franchise QB that needs to answer questions/doubts (Robert Griffin III) and a nickname and mascot that needs to answer questions/doubts.

Sun, Dec. 7 @ Cleveland

Johnny Manziel, despite all the cockiness and media scrutiny, has a chance to do for his franchise what Luck has cemented in the Midwest. The Browns are in far more pathetic shape than the Colts ever were, which makes it all the more profound.

Sun, Dec. 14 HOUSTON

Texans WR DeAndre Hopkins needs to continue to emerge as a dynamic threat opposite Andre Johnson, because Johnson is getting progressively more pissed off with Houston’s incompetence.

Sun, Dec. 21 @ Dallas

This is an intriguing match-up primarily because you never know what the Cowboys will (or won’t) be playing for around Christmas time. We will see if there’s any Yuletide cheer in north Texas.

Sun, Dec. 28 @ Tennessee

Indianapolis finishes its regular-season campaign with a road game against a divisional foe; if everything goes according to plan, the Colts will have the AFC South sewn up before this game.
