2014 AFC South Predictions – Odds To Win Super Bowl XLIX

Looking For AFC South Picks?

Luck has everything to do with the Colts odds. Indianapolis took a brief hiatus from dominating the AFC South in 2011 with Peyton Manning lost for the season, but they are back on top under the guidance of his replacement Andrew Luck.

The wildcard in this year’s division race is what Houston does this season after winning the title in 2012 with a 12-4 record only to fall to a dismal 2-14 last year.

The Colts worked their way back to the top of the AFC South last year with a record of 11-5 and the Oddmakers obviously believe they will remain there in 2014.

This team has a lot going for it on offense with Luck running the show, but there are some legitimate question marks with a defense that was ranked 20th in the NFL in yards allowed last year.

Indianapolis parted ways with running back Donald Brown through free agency to pave the way for Trent Richardson to carry the load in the ground game and they added another weapon in the passing game by selecting wide receiver Donte Moncrief in the third round of the draft.

Houston Texans

  • Texans Odds to Win the 2015 Super Bowl XLIX +5000
  • Texans Odds to Win the 2015 AFC Conference +2000
  • Texans Odds to Win the 2014 AFC South +280

The Texans may not get back to that 12-win plateau this season after last year’s disastrous 14-game losing streak, but you get the feeling they will still be one of the most dominant defensive teams in the league with the addition of defensive end Jadeveon Clowney with the first overall pick in the draft.

The big question with this team is how effective will Ryan Fitzpatrick be at quarterback after former starter Matt Schaub shouldered most of the blame for Houston’s collapse last year.

The good news is that the Texans still have Arian Foster running the ball and Andre Johnson catching it.

Tennessee Titans

  • Titans Odds to Win the 2015 Super Bowl XLIX +15000
  • Titans Odds to Win the 2015 AFC Conference +5000
  • Titans Odds to Win the 2014 AFC South +550
  • Titans Odds from BetOnline

The Titans have posted just one winning season in the last five years and the last time they won the division was in 2008. Despite these results, this is not that bad a team with at least six wins in each of those years. However, there is nothing they did in the offseason that tells me that there will be any kind of dramatic improvement in 2014.

Ken Whisenhunt has been brought in as Tennessee’s new head coach and while he is more than capable of leading this team back to the top of the AFC South it is going to take some time.

He used the draft to add some depth to both the offensive and defensive line, but the jury remains out on Jake Locker’s ability to develop into a franchise quarterback in the NFL.

Jacksonville Jaguars

  • Jaguars Odds to Win the 2015 Super Bowl XLIX +25000
  • Jaguars Odds to Win the 2015 AFC Conference +10000
  • Jaguars Odds to Win the 2014 AFC South +1600
  • Jaguars Odds from BetOnline

The Jaguars’ betting odds point to another long season across the board after winning just 11 games over the last three seasons. The good news here is that this is a team with nowhere to go but up. Jacksonville has enough talent to pull-off a few upsets this season, but anything more than six wins would be a minor miracle.

Second-year head coach Gus Bradley appears to be committed to quarterback Chad Henne as his starter while first-round pick Blake Bortles patiently waits in the wings.

When you are dealing with an offense that was ranked 31st on offense in total yards and dead last in scoring, the pressure to play the rookie is bound to get higher and higher as the season wears on.
