St. Louis Rams Betting Odds – NFL Football Futures

The St. Louis Rams will enter the 2011 season as the team to watch in the NFC West. They are prime for success after making enormous strides in 2010.

A look at the numbers:

Last season – 7-9 SU, 10-6 ATS
Projection this season – 9-7 (1st in NFC West)
Rams Super Bowl XLVI Odds: +6000
Rams 2011/12 NFC Odds – +2500
2011 Rams NFC West Lines – +275

Offensively this team is emerging and defensively they have progressed quicker than most would have expected.

The NFC West is definitely up for grabs in 2011 and the young Rams are my bet to win the weakest division in the NFL.

St. Louis was blessed by their selection of Sam Bradford as their franchise Quarterback. He is as classy and as solid as they come and should provide the Rams a stability that every winning franchise requires. The Rams addressed a rather weak receiving corp. during the frenzied Free Agent period by adding Mike Sims-Walker – a reliable option that Bradford has not yet enjoyed in his young career.

His presence alone should keep defenses honest, keep Sam Bradford upright and open some holes for workhorse Steven Jackson. The Offensive Line is still an area of concern for the Rams but hopes are that they will be able to fill some holes through Free Agency.

Remember, the Rams will not have to be spectacular on offense this season – OK will be enough to make them the most prolific offense in the NFC West. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

St. Louis transformed its defense from one of the worst units in the NFL to the 19th ranked squad in the NFL – not insanely inspiring but decent nonetheless. In 2011, Josh McDaniel has been hired to take this team to a different level. Head Coach Steve Spagnuolo is a defensive mind as well and knows the importance of a stout defensive front. All of the attention may be on the Rams offensive improvements this season but their success will likely come down to their ability to stop teams on defense.

Just like the offense, St. Louis’s defense won’t have to be Top 5 in the NFL for this team to have success. OK is good enough. My guess is that the Rams D is much better than OK however.

HOW IT STANDS NOW

St. Louis fans have a legitimate reason to be excited about the 2011-2012 season. After all, they were one win away from a playoff spot last season! Everything is pointing to a breakout year for the Rams and I am drinking the St. Louis Kool-Aid. The schedule maker was cruel – St. Louis starts with PHI, @NYG, BAL, WAS, bye, @GB, @DAL and vs. NO. But after that it is clear sailing.

Rams NFC West Prediction:

Don’t panic and give up on this team after eight weeks, 9-7 is attainable and will be enough for a first place finish in the NFC West.
