2011 Regular Season Opponents

Sun, Sept. 11 @ St. Louis The Rams are a team headed in the right direction, but they may not yet possess the tools to stop the explosive Eagles in the season opener.

Sun, Sept. 18 @ Atlanta After the Falcons’ “Mr. Big Stick” move in the draft – trading basically every draft pick in history to Cleveland to move up in the first round and grab WR Julio Jones – this should be a great Battle of the Birds, between two of the NFC’s elite.

Sun, Sept. 25 NEW YORK GIANTS The hated Giants come to Philly for the Eagles’ first divisional game of 2011. But who am I kidding? Every team in the NFC East loathes each other.

Sun, Oct. 2 SAN FRANCISCO Whether it’s one of the Smiths (Troy or Alex) or second-rounder Colin Kaepernick under center, San Fran is probably just not organized well enough to come into hostile Philly and snatch away a victory.

Sun, Oct. 9 @ Buffalo The Bills were actually quite adept at stopping the pass last year, but were dead last vs. the run. All this should mean is Eagles’ pivot Michael Vick will do more with his feet in destroying the wishes of Bills fans, yet again.

Sun, Oct. 16 @ Washington DC’s two early draft picks – DE Ryan Kerrigan and DT Jarvis Jenkins – should bolster the defensive unit, which is vital after placing 31st vs. the pass and 26th vs. the run in 2010.

Sun, Oct. 23 BYE

Sun, Oct. 30 DALLAS Usually a bitterly-contested game, these two mortal enemies finished on opposite sides of the divisional spectrum in 2010; the Cowboys will be eager to prove they’re right back in the contest. If Dallas can’t improve their pass defense, Philly will present a myriad of match-up trouble for America’s Team.

Mon, Nov. 7 CHICAGO Statistically, the Eagles are a better team than Chicago, but all the paperwork can be thrown out come game-time, especially when it’s Monday Night Football.

Sun, Nov. 13 ARIZONA The Cardinals’ secondary instantly improved with the drafting of elite LSU product Patrick Peterson, but Philly ought still to find a seam to exploit here or there.

Sun, Nov. 20 @ New York Giants The Eagles make the short commute to the new Meadowlands for the second match-up against Eli Manning and his very tidy offense. The receiving duo of Hakeem Nicks and Mario Manningham is quickly becoming crazy good.

Sun, Nov. 27 NEW ENGLAND Tom Brady is still the best quarterback in professional football. The Eagles can hang points on any team in the league, but playing Brady is playing Brady no matter the background context.

Thurs, Dec. 1 @ Seattle With a perennially difficult division and some other roundhouses on the schedule, a game against the Seahawks may be one Philly needs to seize to ensure a productive season.

Sun, Dec. 11 @ Miami True, the Dolphins have WR Brandon Marshall, but until Chad Henne (or whoever else) can take the next step under center, the Teal and Orange are beatable.

Sun, Dec. 18 NEW YORK JETS Between the Jets and the Giants, they are really playing some good pigskin in the Big Apple lately. Can yappy head coach Rex Ryan and his boys take their show to the City of Brotherly Love and wrest a favorable outcome?

Sat, Dec. 24 @ Dallas If Dallas is playing back up to the caliber of the regular-season Cowboys of recent seasons, this could be a massive game with broad divisional consequences for either team. The fact it’s in the House That Jerry Built just makes it an even more enticing option than mowing the lawn.

Sun, Jan. 1 WASHINGTON Anything can happen from season to season, especially in the NFC East, but all signs point to the Eagles being a better team than the ’Skins this coming season. Washington would probably have to catch Philly napping.
