Listed below is the NFL 2011 Carolina Panthers schedule and some insider NFL handicapping info.

2011 Regular Season Opponents

Sun, Sept. 11 @ Arizona Two of the worst teams in the NFL clash in Week One. I feel that description doesn’t do justice to the term ‘clash’.

Sun, Sept. 18 GREEN BAY Can the Panthers catch the visiting Packers napping? Green Bay was only average stopping the run last season, so maybe a hearty dose of Jonathan Stewart and Mike Goodson would help.

Sun, Sept. 25 JACKSONVILLE If longtime Carolina stalwart WR Steve Smith is indeed gone, the Panthers’ best returning WR is David Gettis. I know, gross right? In all likelihood with a rookie pivot throwing to him, odds look pretty good for the ’Ville in this one.

Sun, Oct. 2 @ Chicago If the road contest doesn’t go as hoped for Carolina, there’s always plenty of rejuvenating deep dish pizza to be had on the shores of Lake Michigan.

Sun, Oct. 9  NEW ORLEANS The Panthers get their first divisional game at home against Drew Brees and the Saints. The Panthers have a decent defensive back seven; the optimist fan says “Brees threw a lot of picks last year, maybe we can rattle him?”

Sun, Oct. 16 @ Atlanta Carolina gets into the teeth of its division schedule pretty quickly in October. This will be the time where the Panthers either raise a few eyebrows over their progress, or the start of the season’s death knell.

Sun, Oct. 23 WASHINGTON DeAngelo Hall, London Fletcher, LaRon Landry. The Redskins have a few defensive players sure to make life miserable for the road team’s attack.

Sun, Oct. 30 MINNESOTA Are the likes of Panthers OGs Geoff Schwartz and Mackenzy Bernadeau up for blocking the Vikings’ beastly interior defensive line? It won’t take long to find out.

Sun, Nov. 6 BYE

Sun, Nov. 13 TENNESSEE The Panthers were 23rd in the league last season in stopping the run, which doesn’t bode well with elite RB Chris Johnson and a machiavellian Titans offensive line coming to town.

Sun, Nov. 20 @ Detroit This is a game that Carolina could win, and it might have to if it wants any semblance of a decent 2011 campaign.

Sun, Nov. 27 @ Indianapolis The Colts can pass but can’t run the ball and the Panthers can stop the pass but not the run. There’s at least room for a little optimism there.

Sun, Dec. 4 @ Tampa Bay Up-and-coming Tampa pivot Josh Freeman could have a field day hucking the pigskin in this divisional match-up. If he doesn’t, second-year, 250-lb beast RB LeGarrette Blount should smash into the heart of the Panthers.

Sun, Dec. 11 ATLANTA If the Panthers (‘if’ as of publication, this could turn into a ‘when’) draft Cam Newton first overall, they will vastly improve their athleticism at the QB position. This is vital against a speedy defense like Atlanta.

Sun, Dec. 18 @ Houston When looking at the best tailbacks in the game, it can be easy to overlook Houston’s Arian Foster, but Carolina would definitely be wise not to.

Sun, Dec. 24 TAMPA BAY Even if the Panthers are just playing spoiler near the end of the season, it still would be a nice to win to have.

Sun, Jan. 1 @ New Orleans Maybe the Saints are resting starters for the post-season? Maybe the Saints are caught napping, as they’re looking forward to the playoffs? Dare to dream, Panthers fans. Dare to dream.
