You know, we liked Nevada plus the points against Notre Dame in the season opener, and that turned out to be a mistake. The Wolf Pack wasn’t completely stymied in terms of yardage, but they were kept off the scoreboard, and were beaten in college football betting as 14-point underdogs (35-0). By the time they played Missouri, we had learned our lesson, as they came up short 31-21 and failed to cover as an eight-point dog in the NCAAF betting odds.

Last Saturday against UNLV, the Wolf Pack got back to its best situation – that of a home favorite against lower-level opposition, and it showed. It was ugly – for the Rebels that is. How ugly? Well, when the dust had cleared, Nevada was on the long end of a 63-28 score and put up a total of 773 yards, 559 of them on the ground. Vai Taua, the team’s leading ball carrier from a year ago, was not available with an elbow injury, but it hardly mattered, as running backs Mike Ball and Luke Lipincott, as well as quarterback Colin Kaepernick, all had at least 170 rushing yards, and Nevada exploded for 28 points in the final period against its hated in-state rival.

Kaepernick is not having a great season throwing the ball, with only three TD passes in four games, but he is in the top 60 in the country rushing the ball, averaging 6.2 yards a carry. He had 397 yards and four TD’s in last year’s win over Louisiana Tech. When Chris Ault’s “Pistol” is humming, it is very hard to stop.

Nevada wilts against capable teams from the BCS conferences, but Louisiana Tech represents the level of opponent the Wolf Pack can handle. The Bulldogs did shine last week against Hawaii, but that was a weary team, and an altogether different opponent entirely. The Warriors simply do not run the ball, Nevada, as we have demonstrated, most certainly does. Inasmuch as the Bulldogs have been giving up 187 rushing yards a game, maybe this isn’t the ideal matchup to make them a winner in college football betting.

Prospects may look even worse considering that Nevada has covered 16 of its last 19 in the position of a home favorite, and we could expect that they can keep it rolling, provided that they don’t have a letdown from the big rivalry win. We’ll lay the points with Nevada, the 8.5-point favorite in BetUS college football betting.
