South Florida Bulls at Florida International Golden Panthers

The Golden Panthers of Florida International University (0-2 SU, 1-1 ATS) will try to get on the board with their first win of the season on Saturday, but they will face a formidable foe in the South Florida Bulls (3-0 SU, 0-2 ATS) in NCAA college football action that is set to kick off at 5 PM ET at FIU Stadium (natural turf) in Miami.

BetUS NCAA Football Betting Odds: SOUTH FLORIDA -28
Here are some of the NCAA college football betting trends as they relate to this matchup:

* USF has won six of its last seven games SU
* USF has covered two of its last six road games
* USF has won six of its last eight road games SU
* USF has played five of its last seven road games OVER the total
* FIU has covered six of its last 22 games
* FIU has lost 24 of its last 25 games SU
* FIU has played 15 of its last 23 games UNDER the total
* FIU has covered three of its last ten home games
* FIU has lost nine of its last ten home games SU
* FIU has played seven of its last nine home games UNDER the total

There might normally be some concern about a letdown coming from South Florida; after all, the Bulls pulled off a big, last-second win over Kansas last Friday night before a national television audience, a victory that brought them the #12 rating in the AP poll. But this FIU squad, which already sustained a 40-10 loss to Kansas, may offer immunity from the effects of that kind of indifference.

FIU has been consistently non-competitive against non-conference opposition. With the loss at Kansas and a 42-0 defeat to Iowa, the Panthers have scored 55 points in their last ten games when venturing outside of the Sun Belt. With a total of 357 yards of offense in the first two contests, that doesn’t seem enough to stave off a South Florida team led by a quarterback (Matt Grothe) who is making a lot of the right moves (66%, 7 TD’s, 2 INT’s).

And even if Mike Ford (ankle injury) is too hobbled to play, whoever the Bulls insert will find room against the permissive FIU front, and on the other side of the interior, George Selvie must be salivating at the thought of penetrating a Panther O-Line that has surrendered nine sacks already. The program at Florida International is still in recovery from the infamous incident against Miami a couple of years ago, in which a Pier 6 brawl on the field led to a number of suspensions and expulsions. Coach Mario Cristobal is making nice inroads in Florida recruiting, but the fruits of that haven’t really come yet.

They won’t by Saturday, as South Florida’s defense becomes quite a bother for either Wayne Younger (11 for 21, 107 yards) or Paul McCall (18 for 44 with four INT’s).

We’ll lay the points with South Florida, the 28-point favorite in the BetUS NCAA college football betting odds.
