A lot of times players and teams have to take their lumps before being recognized; if that theory stands up this might just be the season ‘Horns QB Colt McCoy brings home the Heisman Trophy.
He’s having a phenomenal year through the air and on the ground – he had almost 500 total yards and five TDs last week against Texas A&M (including an unfathomable 175 yards rushing on 18 totes!) McCoy is also buttressed with a solid flock of receivers and an intimidating defense; years of recruiting the state of Texas’ best and brightest is indeed paying dividends.
However, before we completely rule Nebraska out of the contest, we must admit that the Huskers can also come to play. Some weeks ago they held perennial power Oklahoma to just three points. Even without starting QB Sam Bradford, that was impressive. Tailback Roy Helu can also make his mark on the game. Also, as a slight aside – enjoy watching Huskers DT Ndamukong Suh.
Maybe the best player in college football, he is a surefire Top 10 (and probably Top 5) pick in the NFL draft.
I could see this tilt in the House that Jerry Jones Built going one of two ways. Nebraska has far from the most prolific offense in the world, but the Huskers can run the ball and play some solid defense. Nebraska could either grasp the underdog role with gusto and give Texas a really tight game – dare I say, an upset – or Texas will leave it all on the field, know that with a win they’ll book a date in the National Title, and kick the crap out of the Big 12 North’s competition. Though both are possible, the wise bet is that the latter will happen.
Mack Brown will have his boys geared up and ready to prove that the Big 12’s elite can hang with the SEC.
To do that, they’ll have to dispatch the Big 12 North first.

One reply on “Week 14: Longhorns vs. Cornhuskers Predictions”
While I think that Texas will win this game going away, I’m hoping the Cornhuskers do all of college football a favor and throw a huge monkey wrench in the BCS system by beating the Longhorns.
