The Furman defense capitalized on five turnovers, including a 98-yard pick six by Gary Wilkins.

Offensively, Furman was led by Reese Hannon who completed 13-of-19 passes for 164 yards and a touchdown, while Hank McCloud contributed 89 yards on 13 rushing attempts in the team’s win over the Mountaineers.

Meanwhile, LSU was defeated by Mississippi on a final-second field goal last week, which dropped the Tigers from No. 8 in the polls and in essence may have very well ended any national title hopes.

Nevertheless, the Tigers come into this contest with the nation’s longest regular-season, non-conference winning streak, having won 44 straight games dating back to 2002. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

They will need to put the loss quickly behind them and hope for a better performance out of quarterback Zach Mettenberger, who threw three interceptions against Ole Miss.

It was Mettenberger’s worst performance of the year, as he had been picked off just twice over the first seven games.  He has played exceptionally well through the Tigers first eight games, racking up16 TDs, including 14 to the Tigers receiving duo of Odell Beckham Jr. and Jarvis Landry who have combined for 95 catches and 1,600 yards.

And while the Tigers’ air attack has been a huge part of the team’s offensive success this season, their rushing attack should not not be overlooked.

Sophomore running back Jeremy Hill, has rushed for at least 100 yards in four of his last six games, bringing his total to 779 on the year with 10 TDs.

Matt’s Free Prediction

Furman has lost seven straight games against SEC teams dating to back 1963.

This is the first meeting between the schools and I am sure one the Paladins are not going to forget it.

While I don’t think LSU will have any problem covering here, my safe play is the over in this one.

LSU 55, Furman 9
