Cowboys at Wildcats Preview

In a Big 12 match up of a couple teams that are coming off a loss Kansas State hosts 17th ranked Oklahoma State. College football lines have Oklahoma State as 6-point favorites in this game with a total of 67.5.

The Cowboys come into this game with a big issue, as leading receiver Justin Blackmon may not play because of a recent DUI arrest. Head coach Mike Gundy would not comment on the matter and if he does not play it is a big blow to OSU and their 3rd ranked passing offense. Last week Blackmon had 157 receiving yards and 2 TD’s in last week’s loss and he leads the FBS with 1,112 receiving yards and 14 TD’s.

This game is likely to be a high-scoring one, as OSU is averaging 48.3 ppg and rank 3rd in the nation in total yards per game with 529.6 and Kansas State has averaged 50.5 ppg and 438.5 yards of offense in their last 2 games. Can either team play some defense in this game? That is not likely since the Cowboys have the nation’s 91st ranked defense and Kansas State ranks 100th.

Kansas State likely has no shot to win the Big 12 since they are 2-2 in the North division and Missouri is 3-0. Oklahoma State is in control of their destiny, as they only have one conference loss in the South division along with Baylor and Oklahoma, who the Cowboys still have to play this season with both games at home.

I would definitely have to go with the Over in this game, as besides the team stats OSU has an Over record of 6-1 this season and Kansas State is at 5-2 and in the last 4 meetings between these 2 teams the total has gone Over every time.

This season Oklahoma State is 5-2 ATS and Kansas State is 4-3 ATS. OSU has only covered the spread one time in the last 5 games facing Kansas State and the home team is 5-2 ATS in the last 7 games between these 2 Big 12 teams.

In their last games Oklahoma State lost to Nebraska 51-41 and Kansas State lost to Baylor 47-42.

Kansas State will likely have to light up the scoreboard to win since their defense has struggled, big time. I mean, come on, in the loss to Baylor last week the Wildcats gave up 683 yards of offense including 404 passing yards.

On offense Kansas State has a better rushing offense (ranked 24th) than passing offense (ranked 88th).

In the Baylor game Kansas State QB Carson Coffman passed for 231 yards, but had 0 TD and 1 INT. He will be facing a weak Cowboys’ pass D ranks 115th out of 120 FBS teams. The Wildcats will try to establish the run with RB Daniel Thomas (895 yards 9 TD) and if they are successful running the ball and Cousins does not have to pass that often the Wildcats have a better chance to win. The OSU rushing defense ranks a respectable 47th in the nation, but in their loss to Nebraska last week they gave up 217 yards on the ground.

The Cowboys and their explosive offense is led by QB Brandon Weeden and RB Kendall Hunter. Even though Weeden may not have his main WR target in Blackmon he still will air it out, but KSU may have to worry about Hunter more since their rushing defense only ranks 118th in the nation giving up an average of 230.7 rushing yards per game.

Even if the Cowboys do not have Blackmon this Saturday they will get a huge game from Hunter and also Weeden, who as well using his other receiving options. Kansas State will score a lot, but not as much as the Cowboys, as OSU will win this important conference game and cover the 6-point spread.

Betting Trends

Oklahoma State is 3-0-1 ATS in their last 4 games as a road favorite of 3.5-10 and is 4-1-1 ATS in their last 6 road games.
Kansas State is 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games as an underdog and is 9-4 ATS in their last 13 games overall.

Pick: Oklahoma State -6 and the Over
