#19 Penn St. Nittany Lions vs. #16 Wisconsin Badgers Preview & Free Pick

Nittany Lions vs Badgers Betting Free pick

Even though Penn State (9-2) lost last week and they are still reeling from a scandal they still have a shot to play in the first ever Big 10 title game, but must beat Wisconsin (9-2) to get that chance.

No. 19 Penn State Nittany Lions vs. No 16 Wisconsin Badgers Preview

The Badgers have won 3 straight since losing their first 2 games of the season. NCAAF lines have Wisconsin as a 14.5-point home favorite with a total of 48.5.

In their last games Penn State lost to Nebraska 20-14 and Wisconsin beat Illinois 28-17.

It is pretty easy, as they winner for this game will represent the Leaders Division in the inaugural Big 10 championship game. Because of that the loser of this game will be out of the BCS bowl picture.

The Nittany Lions have crushed the Badgers in their last 2 meetings. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

Badgers’ duel threat QB Russell Wilson has not played that good in the last couple of games, but both of his 2 main targets of WR’s of Nick Toon and Jared Abbrederis are each averaging over 15 yards per reception. Penn State has the nation’s 6th ranked pass defense, but the key to them pulling off the upset may be their 34th ranked run defense.

The one guy the Nittany Lions may have to worry about is RB Montee Ball, who have rushed for over 200 yards in 2 of his last 3 games including going for 224 with 2 TD last week against Illinois. The Badgers have been killing it in the ground game in their 3-game winning streak and if PSU cannot play good run defense the Badgers will win this game.

Penn State only ranks 95th in the nation in passing yards per game and their rushing game may have to carry the offense. Stephfon Green has rushed for 4 TD and 164 rushing yards the last two games and he and banged up RB Silas Redd must have good games facing Wisconsin and their 44th ranked rushing defense. This is especially the case since Wisconsin has a great secondary and has the nation’s 3rd ranked pass defense.

Betting Trends

Wisconsin is 6-4-1 ATS and has an O/U record of 7-4 and Penn State is 3-7-1 ATS and has an O/U record of 1-9-1.
Penn State is 1-4-1 ATS in their last 6 games as an underdog, 2-8-1 ATS in their last 11 games against teams with a winning record, and have an Under record of 4-1 in their last 5 games as an underdog.

Wisconsin is 9-1-1 ATS in their last 11 games as a home favorite, 15-5-1 ATS in their last 21 home games, and have an Over record of 4-0 in their last 4 home games.
The favorite is 6-0 ATS in the last 6 meetings between these Big 10 rivals.

Jason’s Pick: Easy call on this one, as I think Ball will have another big game and the Badgers will win and cover the spread. May have to go with the Under in this game, as I think Wisconsin will put up some points while PSU will not.
