San Jose State’s most recent loss came in a 38-16 loss at Nevada, a game in which the team was unable to score in the entire second half.

Surprisingly, the Spartan offense struggled despite a solid performance from standout quarterback David Fales, who completed 28 of 43 passes for 326 yards and a touchdown without an interception. The team had trouble moving the ball on the ground though, with Jarrod Lawson carrying the bulk of the load but turning his 14 carries into just 32 yards.

As a team, the Spartans averaged just 1.9 yards per attempt. In total, they generated just 384 yards of offense against a porous Wolfpack defense.

The Spartan defense had the opposite problem, as Nevada’s ground game was buzzing in the contest.

Nevada gained 311 yards on 51 attempts as a team, good for an average of 6.1 yards per carry. Quarterback Cody Fajardo gave the Spartan defense fits, completing 20 of 27 passes for 171 yards and a score, adding 104 rushing yards and a score on 14 totes.

Running back Kendall Brock was also a thorn in the team’s side, rushing for 85 yards and two score.

Navy’s last game went very differently. The Midshipmen allowed the South Alabama Jaguars to hang around early, but pulled away late for a 42-14 win. Not surprisingly, the Navy offense was led by quarterback Keenan Reynolds, who completed 10 of 17 passes for 168 yards and a score without an interception, adding 59 yards and a score on the ground.

In total, the Navy offense churned out 351 rushing yards, averaging 6.9 yards per tote. Darius Staten played a big role in boosting that average, carrying the ball seven times for 127 yards and a score.

The Midshipmen didn’t have that kind of success on defense, but they did get stops when they had to. The unit surrendered 300 yards of offense to the Jaguars, but held the team off the scoreboard in the second half, allowing only two scores in the game, coming on back-to-back possessions in a span of 6:24.

The Navy rushing attack ranks fifth in the FBS, generating better than 300 yards per outing.

Given the troubles San Jose State had a week ago against an inferior Nevada attack, it wouldn’t be surprising to see the Midshipmen run the ball down the throat of the Spartans the entire night.

The Midshipmen are 16-5 ATS in their last 21 games versus Mountain West opponents.

The play: Navy ML +110
