While Wisconsin has put themselves in an excellent position to win the Big Ten West, Iowa is still within striking distance.

Wisconsin

The Badgers offensive scheme isn’t much of a secret. Give the ball to Melvin Gordon and block for him. That scheme was quite successful last week as Wisconsin took over sole possession of 1st place in the Big Ten West with their 59-24 throttling of Nebraska.

It took RB Melvin Gordon only three quarters to break the FBS record for rush yards in a game with 408 yards coupled with 4 touchdowns.

Gordon is the leading the country in total yards with 1,909 yards and in touchdowns with 25. The Heisman candidate will look to solidify his resume against a defense that is allowing 324.6 yards per game.

After dropping a 20-14 decision at Northwestern, the Badgers have ran off five straight wins. They rank 11th overall in points per game with 39.0. Those 39 points a game are thanks in large part to their 351.2 rushing yards per game (3rd).

Wisconsin has a chance to punch their ticket to Indianapolis in the Big Ten Championship game with a win over Iowa and a Nebraska win over Minnesota on Saturday.

Iowa

The Hawkeyes have an outside chance at the Big Ten West, but will need a win on Saturday and some help from Nebraska. Iowa finally found some stability on both sides of the ball last week in their 30-14 victory in Illinois. The Hawkeyes offense had 587 yards including 304 on the ground.

The key to Saturday’s matchup with the Badgers could come down to time of possession and keeping Melvin Gordon on the sidelines.

Establishing the ground game with Senior RB Mark Weisman will help to keep Iowa’s offense on the field. Weisman has ran for 676 yards this season with 14 touchdowns this season.

Look for Iowa to stack the box and force Wisconsin and QB Joel Stave into some throwing downs.

Stave and the Wisconsin pass offense ranks near the bottom of the NCAA standings with just 142.0 yards per game (119th).
