Southern Utah
The Southern Utah Thunderbirds won’t be favored in the eyes of many for this contest, but they have one thing going in their favor.

They’re facing a team that has been beaten down the past three weeks, both physically and mentally, entering Week 4.
The bad news for Thunderbirds fans is that the same thing can be said about Southern Utah. Last week it fell 26-6 to South Dakota State, the wek before it was a 41-14 loss to Southeast Louisiana and in Week in it was a 28-19 loss on the road against Nevada.
At this point, the Thunderbirds are giving up 471.7 yards per game while only accumulating 335.7 yards of their own each contest.

As an FCS team, they don’t earn nationwide rankings in those types of categories, but we can tell you that those numbers aren’t good three weeks into the year.
Fresno State
We all knew entering the year that the Fresno State Bulldogs weren’t going to be the same team they were last season. Significant losses on both sides of the ball gave this team a different look, but even so, it’s been a rough start to the 2014-15 college football season.
Through three weeks, FSU is 0-3, having lost each contest by an average margin of 35.6 points per game. So far, the Bulldogs are scoring just 19.7 points per game (111th) and allowing their opponents to score 55.3 points per game (128th).
Offensively, the team has been better passing the ball than running, but that’s more an indictment on how bad it’s been in the rushing game than a testament to its success through the air.
Fresno State is throwing for 228 yards per contest — the 77th-best mark in the nation — while accumulating just 105.7 yards per game on the ground — the 112th-best mark.

Following a physical beatdown at the hands of the Nebraska Cornhuskers (55-19), the hope is that a bottom-tier opponent will help turn things around for the Bulldogs. Don’t look at any opponent as a cupcake for this squad considering how it’s played thus far, but understand that Southern Utah is a much lesser caliber opponent than what FSU has seen early in the year.
