Duke lost to Miami (FL) back in September, but have since gone on a 4-game win streak and lead the ACC Coastal.

Everything seems to be falling in place for Duke this year. On paper they haven’t been overly impressive, but they just win. They’ve had some high scoring wins and some low scoring wins this season.

Being able to get it done on both sides of the football has been important. The Blue Devils offense is only averaging 34.8 PPG (31st), 199.6 RYPG (38th) and 204.3 PYPG (88th), but they don’t turn it over often.

Anthony Boone only has 4 INT’s compared to 14 passing TD’s. Boone also has 4 scores on the ground and a 5.0 YPC. His dual-threat ability has been important in opening up the play action pass routes.

The Hokies can stop the pass (180.1 PYPG – 8th), but they struggle against the run (165.0 RYPG – 70th). The defense only gives up 22.6 PPG (34th), but that’s up to 28.0 PPG during the current 3-game losing streak.

I like the fact the Blue Devils use a committee at RB because they stay fresh. Five players have over 40+ carries and the most is 74 carries (Powell). Five players also have multiple rushing TD’s for Duke.

The problem with V-Tech is the offense. They score just 26.2 PPG (84th) while averaging 241.8 PYPG (56th) and 139.9 RYPG (98th). If the run game struggles like it has all season then V-Tech is in trouble.

Duke has issues against the run (203.4 RYPG – 102nd), but they’re much stronger against the pass (197.0 PYPG – 24th). They may allow a lot of rushing yards, but teams only average 18.2 PPG (11th).

Michael Brewer has struggled with interceptions (11) this season and the Blue Devils will likely be able to pick him off once or twice at home. Duke wants to win the ACC and they won’t let up in this game.

Free 4* NCAAF Pick: Virginia Tech Hokies vs. Duke Blue Devils

The Hokies have dominated this H2H series, but Duke won last year (13-10) on the road. Now they’re at home and a much better team plus the Hokies are having a rough season due to a weak offense.

Duke Blue Devils –5 (-110)

I’m actually surprised that the point spread is only –5 points. Duke’s offense should runaway with this game in the 2H. Their RB’s will be fresh and will be able to tire out the Hokies defensive front seven.
