There might be a little rust but these teams should give us a nice game.

Nevada

The Wolfpack had a pretty typical season.

They were competitive in the Mountain West but when it came to beating the really good team in the league they were not up to the task, the same went for their non-conference schedule.

This is a consistent winning program but there is nothing special about the team this season.

On offense even though Cody Fajardo is a talent he was not able to balance his passing with his running. Still they are going to be a handful for the Cajuns.

Nevada can be very effective when they are running the ball.

They averaged more than 200 yards on the ground during the season and Fajardo and top back Don Jackson both rushed for more than 900 yards.

If Fajardo can play a clean game they can definitely beat Lafayette in what will essentially be a road game given the location.

On defense they are not very intimidating but maybe with extra time to prepare they can be better.

UL Lafayette

The Cajuns had another strong season but they finished a game short of the conference title in the Sun Belt – they have to be kicking themselves for losing to Appalachian State at home.

Other than that all of their losses were expected against more powerful program in the non-conference part of their schedule.

This will be the final game for quarterback Terrance Broadway who has led to the program to a lot of success over the past few seasons since transferring back to his home state.

Lafayette is an even stronger team on on the ground this season.

Like Nevada they have their flaws defensively as that 120 passing defense rating sticks out like a sore thumb.

Odds are it will be the offenses that determine this one but with two quarterbacks that are prone to turnovers they will be a factor. Broadway is a senior and he will be looking to finish strong.

He has been mostly mediocre down the stretch.

NCAAF Handicapping Trends:

  • Wolf Pack are 4-0-1 ATS in their last 5 games in December.
  • Under is 7-1 in Wolf Pack last 8 games after allowing more than 200 yards rushing in their previous game.
  • Wolf Pack are 6-1 ATS in their last 7 games on turf.
  • Ragin’ Cajuns are 3-0-1 ATS in their last 4 games following a ATS win.
  • Ragin’ Cajuns are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games in December.
  • Ragin’ Cajuns are 5-1-1 ATS in their last 7 games after accumulating less than 170 yards passing in their previous game.

NCAAF Prediction:  Lafayette -1

Lafayette kicks off bowl season with a win in essentially a home game.

4* NCAAF Score prediction:  Lafayette 38 – Nevada 28

These teams are probably pretty even but that factor alone should have made it -3 for the Cajuns. This is a good value spot.
