In order for Missouri to play in their second straight SEC championship game, they have to beat a tough Arkansas team who has shutout ranked opponents the previous two weeks.

Arkansas

After starting the season 3-4, the Razorbacks have been on fire lately becoming the first unranked team ever to shut out ranked opponents in back to back weeks. Coach Bielema is still unsure as to who will be starting at quarterback, but he is sure that whoever it is they will be ready to play at a high level.

Both quarterbacks are mobile enough to run effective play-action bootlegs and the offensive line has been productive all year in protecting against good edge rushes.

The Razorback defense is ranked 18th in the nation only allowing 20.18 per game. Quarterbacks, and brothers, Brandon and Austin Allen have played well all season mostly targeting A.J. Derby and Hunter Henry on effective crossing routes.

Arkansas will need another big game out their defense seeing as their offense will be faced with a tough challenge scoring points against the Missouri defense.

Brandon Allen, the older brother who has started most of the year, has had an impressive year throwing for 16 touchdowns and only five interceptions. Wide receivers Hunter Henry and Keon Hatcher have collectively caught six touchdowns and have been a big part of the offense.

The running game has been very steady as well. Backs, Williams and Collins, have rushed for 23 touchdowns to go along with almost 2,000 yards and have carried much of the work load for the offense.

Missouri

Coming into this game the Tigers have the 65th ranked offense putting up 29.27 points per game. They have had an impressive year once again and look to be playing in their second straight SEC championship game.

The team plans to honor 19 seniors separately before their final game and some question whether or not emotions will play a factor in the beginning of the game.

After losing to Georgia on October 11th, 34-0, the Tigers have won five straight and set themselves up to control their own destiny in the SEC East. With one of the lowest producing offenses in the conference, ganging only 360 total yards per game, they will look to their defense to be effective and force turnovers.

Playing in Columbia, Missouri, or more commonly known as CoMo, has not been the most difficult place to play. The two games they lost this year were both at home against Indiana and Georgia.

Russell Hansbrough, junior running back, has been effective rushing for 858 yards and nine touchdowns. Through the air it has been Bud Sasser. The senior receiver has caught nine touchdowns and racked up 777 receiving yards.

The leader of the team has been quarterback Maty Mauk. His stats don’t really show how much he has meant to this team, but his teammates say he plays an important role in their success.

He has tossed for 2,014 yards and 21 touchdowns.

NCAA Football Handicapping Trends:

  • Tigers are 2-4 ATS in their last six home games.
  • Razorbacks are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games overall.
  • Razorbacks are 9-1 ATS in their last 10 games.
  • Total has gone under in six of last nine Tiger games.

Missouri is almost a better team when they play on the road in hostile environments as opposed to playing at home. Emotions will be running high in this game with 19 players receiving pre-game honors. If Missouri wants to win this contest they will need a big performance out of it’s offense.

Arkansas has been playing exceptional football, both on offense and defense. They are rolling and love coming into games as underdogs, however they are favorites in this one despite being on the road and playing a ranked team.

Free NCAA Football Betting Pick 4* Arkansas -1.5

I expect Arkansas to pick up right where they left off. The defense will be hounding at the line of scrimmage and in the secondary.

And the offense will do just enough for them to leave Memorial Stadium with a victory to spoil Missouri’s chance to play in another SEC championship game.

Arkansas 24, Missouri 10

Georgia should send thanks to a physical, well-rounded Razorback football team for giving them a chance to play in the championship game.
