FBS Final: Ducks vs Buckeyes Predictions

College football betting action sees the Oregon Ducks taking on the Ohio State Buckeyes on Monday January 12 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.  Cappers Picks provides free NCAAF handicapping tips all season long.

The first playoff championship is shaping up to be a great game. A little like the Rose Bowl on steroids but I like it.

Oregon

The Ducks got the win last week.

That was certainly not a surprise given they were a significant favourite but the way they won was pretty surprising.

[dfads params=’groups=63738&limit=1&return_javascript=0′]

They completely dominated in the second half turning turnovers into points faster than any team I can remember.

Getting those extra possessions enabled Heisman winner Marcu Mariota to put up some very big numbers but I think the story in this one realy was the defense.

Against an FSU team that usually flicks the switch offensively in the second half they dominated.

Be that as it may lets not ignore the offensive firepower of this club.

They might have taken a little while to reach 5th gear (or was it 6th) but the Ducks are able to turn it on better than pretty much anybody else.

Watching the Ducks is very entertaining but you almost need them to score to catch your breath as a fan so you can imagine how imposing defenses feel.

I think FSU is still wondering what hit them.

Ohio State

As impressive as the Ducks were in beating the defending champs Ohio State delivered the first upset of the new playoff system and it was a doozy.

Playing down in SEC country the Buckeyes bested Alabama by doing something not thought possible – running over and through the mighty Crimson Tide.

They might have earned their playoff spot by shutting out Wisconsin in the B10 title game but they showed they belonged with this win. I guess that Urban Meyer can really coach.

Against Oregon you have to think the Buckeyes will have a similar approach, though for different reasons. Ohio State will look to grind out the clock with their running game and will once again have to score touchdowns when they get in the Red Zone.

Scoring just a field goal o a drive against Oregon can be considered a fail because they score so often themselves. I think we will know very early whether the Buckeyes are executiv well enough to score another upset.

NCAAF Handicapping Trends:

  • Over is 4-0 in Buckeyes last 4 non-conference games.
  • Over is 4-0 in Buckeyes last 4 games after accumulating more than 450 total yards in their previous game.
  • Over is 10-1 in Buckeyes last 11 games after scoring more than 40 points in their previous game.
  • Ducks are 6-0 ATS in their last 6 games after accumulating more than 280 yards passing in their previous game.
  • Ducks are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 neutral site games.
  • Ducks are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 games on fieldturf.

4* NCAAF Prediction:  Oregon -6.5

It will be tough for Oregon to match last game’s second half explosion.

NCAAF Score prediction:  Oregon 49 – Ohio State 27

This one will be a more methodical crowning of a program that has done everything but get a title over the last decade.

There is good value on the Ducks too.
