The Michigan Wolverines head out to Carver-Hawkeye Arena to try and pull off the season sweep of Iowa. Both teams are currently in the bottom half of the Big 10 standings and are in desperate need of a win.

Michigan comes into this game with an overall record of 12-12 and they are 5-7 in conference play. After a decent start in Big 10 play including a win over Ohio State they have lost five out of their last seven. In The only two games they have won during this span was a 60-46 win over the Hawkeyes in Ann Arbor on January 30th and a 71-63 win on the road over Minnesota in their last outing. In the win over the Gophers, Senior F DeShawn Sims scored 21 of his 27 points in the second half as the Wolverines were able to pull away down the stretch. Junior G Manny Harris added 20 points to the winning effort. In their first game against Iowa, these two teamed up again to do most of the damage. Sims scored 20 points and had 12 rebounds while once again Harris scored 20. Through 24 games Harris is the team’s leading scorer, averaging 18.4 points per game along with 6.3 rebounds. Sims is averaging 17.5 points and 7.5 rebounds.

Iowa has had their share of trouble this season. They stumbled out of the gate with a 3-7 record and then proceeded to lose their first four conference games. Things have only gotten worse as they have lost five out of their last six to fall to 9-17 on the year and a dismal 3-10 in the Big 10. Their last win was on February 10th when they beat Northwestern 78-65 at home. In that game they were able to open up a 13 point lead at the half and then hold on for the win. Sophomore G Matt Gatens had a game high 16 points and Senior G Devan Bawinkel scored a season high 15 points to lead the Hawkeyes. In their last game they were routed by Purdue 40-63 after falling behind 34-15 in the first half. Through 26 games Sophomore G Anthony Tucker is averaging 11.9 points per game and Gatens is averaging 11.8. Sophomore F Aaron Fuller is the team’s leading rebounder, averaging 5.9 per game.

Michigan is looking to try and build some kind of momentum heading into the Big 10 tournament and it has to start tonight with a win. Iowa has a solid nucleus of young talent, but they have not been able to come together this season and will be hard pressed to pull off the upset at home.
