Wisconsin

There is no doubting this is a good team but to me it looks like an awfully good candidate to be upset in the first round as a #5 seed – there is always one of those right?

This is a chance for them to knock off yet another ranked foe and prove me wrong though.

The reason the Wisconsin doesn’t usually stand out is that they generally succeed without star players.

This year’s leading scorer is Sam Dekker who despite some pretty good hype entering the program has evolved into a nice player, not a superstar. Speaking of stars the Badgers have the son of a former one in the form of Traevon Jackson, whose dad is Jimmy Jackson of Ohio State and NBA fame.

I am always a big fan of Wisconsin when they are underdogs.

They may not play at the same pace as they have done in past seasons but they just have a knack for being underestimated. The Badgers have beaten Iowa once this season using a massive second half to overcome.

That can stick with a team in a negative way.

Iowa

Someone on the radio said Iowa was strong enough to win the championship this season. My first response was shock but maybe they are good enough and they certainly will have played enough tough games over the course of the Big Ten season.

They may have been on the cusp last season but this year they are winning games they used to lose against top teams like Ohio State and Michigan.

Iowa has a deep team this season with 9 players logging more than 13 minutes per game. Nobody plays more than leading scorer Roy Devyn-Marble who probably could average more than 20ppg if he got more floor time. Unfortunately he is not the most efficient scorer shooting just a little over 40%.

He and forward Aaron White give the Hawkeyes a couple of very good options each time down the floor and the rest of the team plays off of that.

I am not as high on this Iowa team as some are. Sure they are enjoying a nice season but it is not that much better really than Wisconsin, who will leapfrog them in the conference standings with a win. Winning those games earlier in the season says one thing but I am not sure they can make a big statement at this time of year.

I want them to prove it to me before I dive in.

Spread Pick: Wisconsin +5
