Kentucky is happy to get to the tournament final after really struggling down the stretch, losing three of their final four regular season games, while the Gators continue to just roll along, winning 26 games in a row.

Neither side needs to earn their entry into the tournament as both teams have already punched their ticket, but Florida is in the hunt for the No. 1 overall seed entering the Big Dance, and Kentucky would like to not only improve their ranking with a win, but also prove to themselves that they can hang with the Gators after losses in each of two meetings this season.

The first meeting was back on Feb. 15 in Lexington, and Florida came away with a 69-59 win that wasn’t really that close. The teams met again in Gainesville on Mar. 8 in the regular season finale for both sides, and the result was never in question.

Florida raced out to a 49-28 halftime lead in an eventual 84-65 Gators win.

Gators forward Casey Prather in particular has had Kentucky’s number this season.

In the two meetings, Prather has scored 39 points on 13-of-14 shooting. Prather chipped in with some more efficient scoring in the team’s 56-49 semifinal win over Tennessee on Saturday.

He had 12 points on 5-of-7 shooting against the Volunteers, while center Patric Young scored 16 points. Standout point guard Scottie Wilbekin is averaging 14.5 points and 4.0 steals through two tournament games.

As for Kentucky, their semifinal win came over Georgia by a score of 70-58.

The Wildcats shot 51.0 percent from the floor and 56.3 percent from beyond the arc in that one. Star forward Julius Randle hit on just four of 10 shots from beyond the arc, but he did supplement his 12 points with 11 rebounds for another double-double.

Guard Aaron Harrison paced all scorers with 22 points on 7-of-10 shooting, knocking down four of seven shots from beyond the arc, while brother Andrew had 12 points, nine assists, and five rebounds. Fellow guard James Young had 14 points on 6-of-8 shooting.

Kentucky is going to want this game badly, but it’s beyond difficult to imagine the Wildcats turning things around against the Gators after getting beaten as badly as they did in the regular season.

The Gators haven’t faced much in the way of stumbling blocks en route to their 26 consecutive wins, and all signs point to an SEC title being in their near future.

The Gators are 5-0 ATS in their last five games overall, while the Wildcats are 1-4 in the last five meetings between these teams.

The play: Florida -6
