The Lobos are a team everyone is wondering about. They had a gaudy record and some impressive wins in conference but there is still some doubt in people’s minds. Those people just are not on the seeding committee who gave them a nice #3 seed. Darrington Hobson may be one of the most underrated players in America.
He is an athletic wing who leads the team in scoring and rebounding and he should be able to get off against the Grizzlies even though they will focus on shutting him down. For this game his supprting cast should be enough to make it through but as they begin to play better teams it will be much more challenging.
Either way this has been a very good season for basketball in the state of New Mexico
To have a chance in this one Montana will have to maintain their good outside shooting – they come into the game ranked eighth in the country in 3pt shooting at a hair over 40%. We all know that the three point shot is the great equalizer for overmatched squads but if they are not falling for Montana in this one it will get ugly in a hurry.
They have an explosive scorer in Anthony Johnson who scored an amazing 42 out of 66 points in the championship game. He has been known to go on great streaks but lets face it, the Big Sky is not loaded with tons of athletes and defensive stoppers.
Kudos to Montana on a solid season but it would be a real shock if they made it to the second round.
