Butler Bulldogs (26-9)

As the No. 8 seed suggests, Butler didn’t quite live up to its 2010 national finalist hype this season. However, as the Bulldogs have shown in the NCAA Tournament, they may have simply been saving their best play for March Madness.

The Bulldogs slipped past popular sleeper Old Dominion before beating Pittsburgh in a wild finish that will live on thanks to the ridiculous blunder by Nasir Robinson. Then, they knocked off the defensive powerhouse Wisconsin.

While Shelvin Mack couldn’t find his stroke, Matt Howard got the job done with 20 points and three three-pointers. Butler also survived a whopping 29 three-point attempts from Wisconsin, which only nailed seven of them.

Including the regular season, the Bulldogs have now won 12 straight games. This month, they’re also 5-0 against the spread. Between Howard and Mack, it seems that one guy always picks up the slack if the other is off his game.

Florida Gators (29-7)

Perhaps because Kentucky tossed them aside so unceremoniously in the SEC tournament, Florida stumbled into the NCAA Tournament without much fanfare. However, like Butler, it seems the Gators saved their best play for crunch time. Online Sports Betting at Sportsbook

Florida crushed USCB and got past UCLA without too much trouble. Then came the overtime win over BYU. Florida really took over in the extra frame, outscoring BYU 15-6. The win was a real team effort for the Gators; Erving Walker, Kenny Boynton, Chandler Parsons and Alex Tyus all scored at least 16 points.

Trends:

Under is 7-1 in BUT last 8 NCAA Tournament games.
Under is 7-2 in BUT last 9 overall.
BUT are 17-5 ATS in their last 22 Sat. games.
Over is 10-1 in FLA last 11 NCAA Tournament games.
FLA are 8-1-1 ATS in their last 10 games overall.
Over is 18-6 in FLA last 24 overall.

The pick:

Both teams keep defying the odds, so it’s tough to pick a winner here. However, I like Florida’s superior depth to prevail. Butler relies too much on just Howard and Mack and we’re still waiting for both of them to play well in the same game in this tournament. Butler will need both of them against Florida to have a shot. Meanwhile, Florida is a tough matchup because it has so many different guys who can wreak havoc offensively. You can’t really key on one player.

Look for Florida to ride its matchup advantages to a victory.
