Stunning. That’s about the only way to describe the Los Angeles Lakers vs. Dallas Mavericks series, which has seen the Mavs race to a 2-0 lead—and they’ve yet to play a home game. That will happen Friday, when Dallas hosts Los Angeles for Game 3.

The Lakers are completely falling apart. The entire team seemingly doubts itself after a 93-81 loss in Game 3. “Trust” is becoming a central issue. “We’ve got to communicate and trust each other,” Paul Gasol said after the game. Center Andrew Bynum added “I think all 13 of our guys have trust issues right now.”

Not only do the Lakers need more trust, they need more scoring from Gasol. His perplexing playoff slump continued in Wednesday’s loss, as the big man managed just 13 points. Laker fans finally turned on him, booing the Spaniard. Lifetime Bonus at BetOnline

Kobe Bryant is trying to do too much on his own, which is probably where some of the trust comments are coming from. Bryant scored a team-high 23 points on 9-for-20 shooting, but he had no rebounds and just three assists. Bryant was also 1-for-5 from the three-point line. Los Angeles would be wise to work the ball more to Andrew Bynum, who was 8-for-11 with 18 points and 13 rebounds.

The Mavericks are playing some marvelous defense. They held the Lakers to just 41 percent from the field, including a brutal 2-for-20 effort from beyond the three-point line. Dallas completely shut down Los Angeles in the second half, limiting the Lakers to just 32 points.

At the other end of the floor, Dirk Nowitzki had another great came. He shot 9-for-16, finishing with a game-high 24 points while adding seven rebounds. Dallas was boosted by a surprising effort by J.J. Barea, who chipped in a dozen points.

The Lakers look finished, plain and simple. They have no faith in each other, and now Dallas heads home with a 2-0 lead. To make matters worse, Ron Artest will likely be suspended for the game after clotheslining Barea. Take Dallas.
