The Heat split their first two games of the young campaign, beating the Bulls in their opener before falling to the Philadelphia 76ers in a 114-110 shocker.

Miami All-star guard Dwyane Wade, who scored 13 points in the opener against Chicago on Tuesday, did not see any playing time against the Sixers’, as he was rested during Wednesday’s game with knee soreness.

Meanwhile,  Michael Carter-Williams recorded 22 points, 12 assists and an NBA debut-record nine steals, as Philly rallied from nine points down in the fourth quarter to snap a 15-game losing streak to Miami in the regular season.

LeBron James led the Heat with 25 points and 13 assists, but missed a pair of huge chances to get his team back in it, while Chris Bosh added 22 points and 10 rebounds.

James did  hit a pair of free throws in the final seconds of the second quarter to bring Miami within 51-49 at halftime.

The Heat offense was partially fueled by Ray Allen, who scored 19 for the Heat and made 16-of-40 from 3-point range, including a bucket from just past midcourt at the buzzer for a 94-85 third quarter lead.

However defense was a problem, as the Sixers’ outscored the Heat 15-3 down the stretch. [ad-6571516]

Over in Cleveland, the Nets played their first of two games under the direction of assistant coach Joe Prunty, who will fill in on Friday for head coach  Jason Kidd, who is serving a  two-game suspension stemming from his drunk driving arrest.

It was a disappointing start to the 2013 season for newbie’s  Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce and Jason Terry, who couldn’t find a way to sustain a hot start, falling 98-94 to the Cavaliers on a go-ahead basket with 28.1 seconds remaining.

The offense was led by Brook Lopez, who scored 21 points while Pierce had 17 and Terry 14 for the Nets, who were without point guard Deron Williams down the stretch because of a sore ankle.

Williams had seven points and nine assists in 22 minutes.

Free Pick : Miami – The Nets have yet to beat the Heat and have never been favored by the oddsmakers.

The Nets were blown out by an average of 21 points the past three times the two teams met.

And while the Nets starters match up well with Miami’s starting five, the Heats’ bench is better.

Considering some aging Brooklyn legs, that’s just the advantage Miami will need to win this one on the road.

Heat 106, Nets 94
