The Celtics come in losers of 2 in a row while the Knicks look to end a 10 game losing streak of their own.

New York Knicks

So used to being in the national spotlight, the Knicks have faded out of the media’s attention following their 4-20 start.

The only thing going right thus far for the Knicks are that they are in the same division as the 76ers.

Thanks to a 2-19 record for Philadelphia, the Knicks have avoided the cellar in the NBA Atlantic Division. They still however are 13 games out of 1st place.

While there are many factors that play into the Knicks abysmal record, scoring is the biggest. The Knicks rank 26th overall in scoring with just 93.8 points a game. Carmelo Anthony leads the way with 22.9 points a game. There is a significant drop to 2nd place in scoring, where Amar’e Stoudemire averages just 13.3 points a game.

While the offense is clearly a mess, the defense has been no better. In 12 road games this season the Knicks are allowing 104.5 points a game. Overall, they rank 15th in the NBA with 99.7 points against.

Away from MSG, the Knicks are just 1-11 S.U. Things aren’t as bad as the straight up record indicates for Knicks backers, as they are 5-7 ATS in those 12 games.

Boston

While things aren’t as bad for the Celtics as they are for the Knicks, Boston is still struggling more than expected this season. After winning 3 in a row, the Celtics have dropped their last 2 games. Boston currently sits in 3rd place in the NBA Atlantic Division, 5 games ahead of the 4th place Knicks.

A meeting with the offensively challenged Knicks could be exactly what the Celtics need. Their defense ranks 28th overall in the NBA with 106.8 points against them. Things improve a little bit for them on their home floor as they allow 105.6 points a game in the TD Garden.

The Celtics will need to focus on stopping Carmelo Anthony in order to have any success in lower that season average.

While they look to turn things around, they can look at their rebounding and assists stats and try to build off those. The Celtics rank 9th overall in rebounding (44.1 per game) and 3rd overall in assists (25.7 per game).

At home this season, Boston is just 5-7 S.U. and 5-7 ATS. With both averaging and allowing over 100 points a game, the over has hit in 8 of the 12 games.

NBA Basketball Handicapping Trends:

  • Knicks are 6-13 ATS in their last 19 games overall.
  • Knicks are 3-7 ATS in their last 10 road games.
  • Celtics are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games overall.
  • Celtics are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 vs. Eastern Conference.

Free NBA Basketball 4* Pick: New York

While the Knicks are playing some terrible basketball, Carmelo and company have a chance to get themselves going against one of the worst defenses in the league.

New York 105, Boston 102

Carmelo comes up clutch late in a high scoring affair in Boston.
