Toronto

Dickey held Tampa to just 2 hits while recording the complete game shutout. He didn’t have an impact on the game with his bat but the Jays now have SS Jose Reyes back in their lineup. He definitely looked very healthy covering ground in the infield and he could further spark the lineup. The Jays series with Tampa wasn’t a great success but this team is still on a very good 12-2 run.

Looking to continue his success with his new team is Chien-Ming Wang.

The Jays have won all three of his starts since pilfering him from the Yankees AAA team and he has not given up an ER in either of the last 2. His stuff has been far from dominating but he has been able to get the outs when he needs them. Wang was never all that great vs Boston and his numbers are pretty rough at Fenway Park. A lot has changed since he was a key member of the Yankees staff.

He was better then and the Red Sox probably were too.

Boston

Boston closed out its series with Colorado with back to back victories to build some momentum coming into this series with Toronto. Boston has been treading water like the rest of the American League East, save Toronto, but still enters Thursday with a 3 game lead in the standings. One of the ways they have built that lead is by winning the season series with Toronto so far 5-4. In case you didn’t already know it Boston is the top scoring team in the Majors at better than 5 runs per game.

Early on Jon Lester was very good but he has been terrible for a month now. Just once in his last 7 starts has he given up less than 4 runs and he hasn’t made it to the 6th inning in his last three starts.

His control has been lacking and he is just getting pounded when he brings his stuff into the zone, giving up a ton of hits.

Facing the Jays may help as he owns a 13-7 record against Toronto. That includes his absolute best game of the season, a one hit shutout of the Blue Jays at Fenway. His and his opponents fortunes have changed alot since then.

I am not a believer in Wang but I do believe in the Jays bullpen which has been fantastic. Once Wang and Lester are chased from the game it will be up to the relievers and this is an area where the Jays have the advantage.

Probably going to see a lot of runs scored in this one over the weekend as the Jays finally get the production they were expecting from Reyes.

O/U Pick: Over
Score Prediction: Toronto 7 – Boston 6
