The New York Yankees offseason investments paid huge dividends last season by winning the 2009 World Series. They beat the Philadelphia Phillies in six games of a best out seven series to capture their 27th World Title. They will have their sights set on a repeat performance in 2010, but there are few teams in their own division that have a chance to challenge them for the division title.

Boston finished last year with a record of 95-67 which was good enough to win the AL wildcard spot, but not enough to keep pace with the Yanks. They went on to get swept 3-0 in the Division series by the LA Angels. Tampa Bay finished third at 84-78, 13 wins less than in 2008, when they won the AL.

In fourth place were the 75-87 Toronto Blue Jays who started the season strong, only to fade away finishing 11 games worse than in the previous season.

The Baltimore Orioles finished last in the division for the second year in a row with a record of 64-98, 31 games out of first.

Here is a look at each team in the NL West’s odds to win the division this season as well as the over/under on their season win totals.

Baltimore Orioles
Odds to Win the AL East 30-1
Win Total Over/Under 74.5

This is a fairly young team that should be able to improve somewhat after winning less than 70 games for the past two seasons. They will still need starters Jeremy Guthrie, Brad Bergesen, and Kevin Millwood to have better seasons if they are to have any chance of climbing out of the AL East basement

Boston Red Sox
Odds to Win the AL East 7-4
Win Total Over/Under 94.5

Adding John Lackey to the rotation along with Josh Beckett, and Jon Lester gives the Sox one of the best rotations in baseball. Dustin Pedroia, Kevin Youkilis, and Jacob Ellsbury help bolster one of the more formidable lineups in the league which combined with their pitching could be enough to unseat the Yankees in 2010. New York Yankees
Odds to Win the AL East 8-11
Win Total Over/Under 95.5

This team is set up for another deep run in 2010. Their starting rotation remains solid with C.C. Sabathia, A.J. Burnett, and Andy Pettitte and their bats remain solid with Derek Jeter, Mark Teixeira, and Alex Rodriguez.

Tampa Bay Rays
Odds to Win the AL East 5-1
Win Total Over/Under 89.5

Their starting rotation is led by Matt Garza and James Shields and adding closer Rafael Soriano will definitely help. With players like Carl Crawford, Ben Zobrist, and B.J. Upton they might be able to regain the form that took them all the way to World Series in 2008.

Toronto Blue Jays
Odds to Win the AL East 75-1
Win Total Over/Under 70.5

Ricky Romero, Shawn Marcus, and Brandon Morrow will need to step up to fill the huge void left by the departure of ace Roy Halladay who was traded this off season to Philadelphia. With Vernon Wells, Jose Bautista, and Lyle Overbay they still have enough talent on offense to improve on last year’s win total.
