Texas split a four-game weekend road series with Minnesota to run its record to 5-5 in its last 10 and 36-31 overall. The Rangers’ lead over Seattle in the AL West heading into this series with New York was down to two games. They are 20-13 at home this season but just 16-18 on the road.

Consistency on offense has plagued Texas as of late. It scored a total of 16 runs in its last two wins and seven runs in its last four losses including tallying just two total runs in losses to the Twins on Saturday and Sunday. Derek Holland will be on the mound for the Rangers in this one. The left-hander is 5-1 this season with an ERA of 4.41 in 13 starts. Lifetime against the Yankees, he is 0-3 with an 8.61 ERA.

New York bounced back from a three-game sweep at the hands of Boston last week to take three-of four from Cleveland over the weekend. The series wrapped up yesterday with the Yankees getting shutout 1-0 as a 175 home favorite. They are now 36-28 overall and two games behind the Red Sox in the AL East. They are 16-11 on the road and 20-17 at home. [dfads params=’groups=10&limit=1&return_javascript=0′]

Scoring has been a bit steadier for New York as it is ranked second in the AL in total runs with 330. Pitching has actually become the issue at times this season with a team ERA of 3.59. Right-hander Ivan Nova will get the start in this one. He is 5-4 in 12 previous starts with a 4.30 ERA. He pitched a gem against Texas in early May; giving up no earned runs and just two hits in seven innings of work to get the win.

Head-to-head, the Yankees have won four of six this season and are 2-1 at home. The total has been evenly split 3-3 overall, but stayed ‘under’ in two of three games at Yankee Stadium. The teams are each 1-1 this season with Holland and Nova as their starters, but they have yet to face one another.

Stick with New York in this one as Nova gets the best of this matchup in a low scoring affair.
